Moussa Sissoko

We win 6-1 and he gets slated.. the bloke really can't win

I was at the game and you could see that his confidence is lower than pavement. At half time when we were two up and he hadn't done anything wrong he is getting pelters from some fans for how she he has been

Remarkably once he started taking more risks, playing attacking football rather than safe backwards passes, people changed their tune. People even sang his name

I've not seena player under Poch look so less confident apart from maybe soldado. Sissoko looked prettified to try anything that wasn't safe,.., but you can't blame him considering the abuse he gets

I mentioned it mate,in the omt where as usual he was getting slated. Thought he did fine last night. As did Jansen when he came on looked sharp.

I thought he was fine second half and appalling first half. He is an enigma; strong, quick and looks a presence but seems to lack a footballing brain. I think he'll be gone soon - the look on Poch's face as he spoke to him from the touch line first half spoke volumes.

As Jamie Carragher said last night, if we'd had Mane as an option or coming off the bench this season rather than Sissoko then we might be polishing the Premier League trophy now.

a) How long has he been out of confidence for? Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans will tell you he must have been lacking confidence for the last 3 years.

b) All of those players, without exception, showed the basic skills required to be a professional footballer. At times (apart from Eriksen IMO) they have all shown other traits that make them less than suited to our team, but they've always looked like professional footballers.

Being someone that pays little attention to either transfer rumours or bricky clubs from the North East, I knew absolutely nothing about Sissoko when he joined. My only basis for judgement was that both Levy and Poch thought he was worth paying money for, so my assumption was that he was at least a good footballer.

Nothing he's done since that point has supported that assumption. Apart from a pass or two per match (on a good day) he's not even looked competent. On a bad day (and there's been plenty of them) he genuinely looks like a fan has won a competition to play for the team. More often than not, he fails to control the ball, his passes rarely have anything even nearing the correct weight on them, and let's not even start on his shooting.

Watching him play is like watching my Mum try to play FIFA. She can never remember which the pass and shoot buttons are, and she doesn't get the concept of short or long presses, so just holds down the button until the player hoofs it.

This thing about him not having a footballing brain is flimflam. He does, he also puts good weight and touch on his through balls, short and medium forward passes. He presses well and works hard. Has obvious strength and pace this coupled with his "unusual" gait and dribbling style make him difficult to dispossess. He also has obvious weaknesses as well.

The issue with the majority of fans is the fact that he cost 30m, and by almost every measurable he hasnt lived up to that... but thats not really his fault.

And therein lies the rub, my criticism of him is not based on just last night, on the contrary it is based on the whole season.

I did see like one comment after the goal in the OMT so it was probably yours. It was excellent play, and if it was anyone else there would have been comments galore. But because it was Sissoko was like it never happened....

Nonsense. Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans are pished because he rejected them. He played fine for them. Well enough for Benitez to make him their captain and well enough to be selected by the French National team. He is bereft of confidence but he has not let us down when he has played. I was at the Palace game and was pleased how a combination of him and Walker kept Zanzibar quiet second half which gave us a platform to win the game.

On the contrary, you may praise whoever you like, I will simply reiterate the point I made earlier, that my assessment of Sissoko is not based on one match, but rather the whole season. If I think a player has a good match I will say so even if I do not think he is a very good player. I just think despite his contribution to that goal his overall performance was at best ordinary.

BY the way I actually thought he would come good for us when we signed him but now I think I was wrong

I've never suggested he doesn't have a footballing brain. I don't think we'll ever be able to determine whether or not he does, because he clearly doesn't have footballing feet.

I have no issue with the things he tries to do, it's the execution of them that goes awry.

I'm not in the habit of listening to rabid, angry fans other than to laugh at them.

If you want an example look at @Greg on this forum. He's a balanced and knowledgeable poster who is able to make honest assessments of his own team and players. Ask him what he thinks of Sissoko.
 
@harr1984 @DubaiSpur I actually think the comments about his confidence being poor when we signed him as being a poor excuse. We signed him afterhe had a very impressive Euro 2016 in which was able to earn himself a place in midfield ahead of Kante. I thought he impressed and this was the Sissoko I thought we were signing and I was very optimistic.

After such a good tournament it is a poor excuse to say he came to us low in confidence, he should have been buzzing. I think his confidence is low now but that is because he has not been able to hold down a regular place this season
 
Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans have worse blinkers than most Spurs fans and we have a really blind bunch (Their were guys behind me yesterday saying the ref was biased towards Leicester... after we score dour 5th goal!!!!). I dont value their opinion on a player who has left them as fans like that rarely are complementary when a player leave for bigger and better things

Sissoko does lack finesse and when you compare him with Alli or Eriksen but then thats the same for 99% of the players in this league. He does appear to be broken man on the pitch to me which I find odd but when you sit there and hear the fans abuse him you get why... yesterday when he started going forward the fans started signing his name which I've never heard to date
