Transfer speculation

Really good listen on the Wednesday club about us and transfers of current players

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p051wbqz

Summary: pundits think players would be nuts to leave us at the moment considering where we are going; however Levy will need to open the purse strings in order to keep current players. Players have an understanding on their value (like all of us in our job) and if they perceive they are not being paid enough for the value they deliver then they get agitated (like all of us in our jobs).

Thought it was a very reasonable summary of the position.

I listened and a lot of sense was spopken, but doubling one's wages is very tempting. If I get a move to another company doing the same job I do right now it would be crazy for me to not consider it

Why would Lamela be sold?
While I really like Lamela as a player, he has now spent more than half his time at Spurs out injured. It is hugely detrimental to squads to have injury prone players. I guess the question here is whether Lamela is injury prone or we have just had a couple of unlucky seasons for him?

If Lamela is sold and we can flog Sissoko, use the money to get Bernardo Silva. £40 million ought to do it.

You are naive if you think Bernardo Silva will go for £40m when John Stones went for £50m. A lot of top clubs are interested in Mendy and Monocco will not sell their top players cheaply.

And why the heck should we sell Lamela who was good for us last season?

Indeed.

Our turnover next year should comfortably be at least £50 million higher than this year. Taking our usual wage to income ratio that means we should be able to add £25 million to our wage bill. Put another way that amounts to £40k a week rises for 12 players.

Or better still for 11 players and the balance added to our wonderful coaching staff.

Im not sure he's spent over half his time injured. In his first season he didn't feature that much under AVB, as he seemed to be bedded into the team - although he got an injury in April that ended his season that year. Hes then played over 30 games for the next two seasons, then onto this season where obviously hes had his long term injury -I think youre being a tad harsh there....

The issue with Lamela is that he, at the moment, has no value at all. And without valuation it is hard to make any negotiation.

That's why I said if Lamela is sold. As for Stones, English player going to English club willing to pay crazy money (look at what they paid for Bravo). So yeah, Silva for £40m might just be doable.

Morocco do not sell their top rated players cheaply. Added to that it has been linked to the likes of Man Utd and Real Madrid, clubs we cannot compete with when it comes to both transfer fees and salaries. I think you best not hold your breath for that transfer to go through

Sky reporting Toby's contact talks as "stalled" today and bigging up the Walker story.

Have a feeling this will be our summer - subject of endless speculation, most of it hopefully leading nowhere.
