*** Tottenham Hotspur vs. Hull City OMT ***

30 passes total. But 2 actual passes. Verts Rose Eriksen.

I.e. We probed and waited for a while before Rose thought "sod this" and actually trusted his back three to defend, sprinting up the wing and into the box. 3 seconds, goal.

Same with Dier Walker Eriksen.

The longer we keep the ball, the harder it is for them to stay focused and in position. What's important is to strike when the opportunity presents itself. Most likely many players had been drawn towards our right hand side when we passed it back to Lloris.

So good to be back at The Lane last night. Had a bit of an explore around the site for the new stadium, heart was swelling with pride.

Only seen us at Wembley this season so far so underestimated the difference between that and our home. I hardly sing at Wembley, didn't stop in Park Lane. Loved that we kept shouting for Winks to get the ball, and when he did to cheer and clap. Then chanting Winks instead of Yid for the drum chant! Solid game although we were really slow to get into the game at the start of the second half. A better team would have punished us. I feel Alli needs benching for a bit, Lamela is now back right? He can slot into the middle if so. Sissoko was great for driving with the ball, if he had scored I would have lost my brick! Watching Jan in the flesh again, he's such a Rolls Royce of a defender, so classy. Toby directing from the back was a wonderful sight as well. Poch needs to stop this silliness about always playing it out from the back, it gets us into trouble. Sometimes it's fine to just smash the ball out as far as possible.

Walker and Rose have to be the best performing full-backs in the PL right now. We are lucky that they fit into the system so well. So important to both our defending and attacking play. Overall, it was a good evenings work.

FTW

Exactly, waiting for the opportunity when you can make the '2 actual passes'. Also, if we've got the ball, they can't score.

But most teams don't need the ball for as often as we do to score. Of course you would rather have more possession than the other team but people get a bit carried away with it sometimes. You don't get points for having more possession despite what Arsene Wenger believes should be the case. Liverpool had over 80% possession against Burnley and lost 2-0.

Oh stop it! It's not about tearing it up! It's about showing some fudging interest! When he got the shot blocked from Son's pass, he could not have looked less desireless. It's about change of pace, hunger, looking like you want the ball instead of hiding. Winks got that. Onomah so far, meh.

The shot wasn't through a lack of desire, it was through a lack of belief or confidence. Or do you think he got into that position and thought to himself "nah, I'd rather not score here"?

I can only surmise that his languid running style is being confused with laziness or a lack of interest as I've watched the final seven minutes back a couple of times now and all I see is him chasing the ball down whenever it's in his general vicinity. I just don't understand how a debate around Onomah has come up in a game where it's 3-0, he's come on, touched the ball a few times and the game has ended. His appearance was barely even a footnote yet he's being labelled as the disappointment of the night.

None less so than Leicester who perfected the art of scoring on the counter last season (together with, it has to be said, the art of the thug in defence.)

Winks came in and looks a fit straight away

Josh (who i know is younger) comes on and doesn't impact the game on any level for me so far

Winks comes in and looks a fit straight away in large part due to him playing the position he's been trained to play in for the past x amount of years. Josh isn't just adapting to 1st team football, he's adapting to what are unfamiliar positions to him. He will continue failing to "impact" the game in the way you're hoping because that's just not the kind of player he is, it would be like judging Dembele for not doing the things that Kane does.

Here's a video showing him in the position that comes more natural to him, nothing amazing but more to just show where he's typically played throughout his development years. Obviously Poch sees reason to use him elsewhere for now though and I don't think he's one to waste time on someone he doesn't believe in so hopefully the fans can get behind that.

I’d pick him anytime when he starts performing again.

However particularly now with the CM/transitioning issue, it’s even more important our AMs are able to deliver a bit of spark and creativity against a packed defence - hence experimenting with GKN there instead

Hi GB. Eriksen had already scored 3 goals and an an assist in the previous 3 games. That is better than anyone in our team.
Don't you think he was performing already.??????

in the last 4 games , he has scored 5 goals and 2 assists.

For the season so far he has 5 goals / 5 assists.
D Alli has 3 / 3
Son has 5 / 5
Kane has 7 / 1.

So he is clearly our BEST performer RECENTLY and in the season so far.

Do you agree that he is performing now.????

P.S. Your favorite player that you always rated higher than Erikson could not even get into the Hull side.;)

A bit silly to be judging someone for a cameo role in an already won game. The game had lost all its intensity and we had dropped down a gear or two.

Personally, I'm not sure about the system used yesterday. I am a fan of the back three and the rotation of Alli and Sissoko with Kane was good, but we didn't really carve them open often enough, nor make enough of the openings we did create. Now this might be because I don't think we have the right profile of player up there (I would prefer real wing forwards like Son is meant to be) or because Alli is off his game at the moment. Personally I thought we looked a greater threat when Winks came on and Eriksen was pushed forward.

I know he normally plays centre mid but clearly isn't deemed ready there yet. I'm not judging him on one game I'm judging him on all the games I've seen him in.

So far he hasn't shown anything to make me think that he has it. I don't mean techniclaly I mean attidtude and work. There things you can show even playing in a new position IMO

Can't believe I defending GB, but the fact is some of those stats you quote are MORE RECENT than GBs post negates some of your argument.

You are misinterpreting what I mean. English is not my first language, so maybe I lack the vocabulary to express what I mean so it is understood correctly. But I'll just leave the subject.

GB's post saying Eriksen wasn't performing is in THIS thread.
In the previous 3 games before this game , he already had 3 goals & an assist.

If that is NOT performing - I don't know what is.
Who else was performing better? - Delle, Son, etc.

I understand there are different ways of playing, I'm talking about Poch's philosophy. You were referring to our play and suggesting we should cut out the 'unnecessary' passes.

I'm saying we should try to cut out passing the ball all the way back to Alderweireld or Lloris when we are on the edge of the opponent's box.

But you're using figures from after GBs post to hang him.
And the 'assist' was a double deflection that fell in such a way it required an exceptional strike to score from.
Just think it seems a bit harsh to criticise GB on this occasion.

But he's still arguing he needs to be dropped despite his improvement in form. Think you have to realise that GB changing his opinion about a player is extremely unlikely.
He's not STILL arguing, he argued for it up to last night's game.
I don't expect GB to change his opinion on anything, but let's not all be clever AFTER the event.

This is pretty much my stance as well, i have been at all the games he has been involved in and i have not seen anything YET that leads me to believe he will become a regular here. Of course this may change ( i hope it does).
