Nabil Bentaleb

From those quotes it suggests Bentaleb felt surplus and wanted out and Poch didn't feel strongly enough to keep a player who wasn't up for fighting for a place. But that is just from Poch "quotes" so who knows.
 
Bentaleb is history.

It looks to me like his head was turned and he thought himself above fighting for his place and has an inflated sense of his own self worth. Poch doesn't like the slightest bit of dissent and once a player displays it (Ade, Kabul, Lennon, Townsend,etc) they might as well forget a future at Spurs with Poch at the helm. I just think he doesn't forgive or forget grudges.

Publicly ostracizing a player must have an impact on the selling price though. It certainly works in terms of laying down who is boss and must have Levy's approval.
 
I wonder if he has been given some bad advice. There was the talk that he turned up last summer to contract negotiations mob handed. I wonder if his agent has turned his head and is after his cut of a better deal elsewhere.

And this is how it should be. It's great to see a Spurs manager who knows how to deal with big egos in such a positive way. No player will be bigger than the club and no player (s) will be allowed to disrupt the harmony of the rest of the team. Poch is saying it in public to send a clear message to the rest of the squad. Well done Poch. This from a bentaleb fan.
 
It's a bit surprising as Bentaleb was always the one going to the sidelines for instructions to pass on. So Poch must have had faith in him at some stage.
I thought he had a big future a Spurs, it would seem not. Sad to see him go but Poch is the man.

Shame, because he does have ability - but competing at the top (in anything) is way beyond ability

They have a good idea what to expect from a Levy negotiation. And most clubs with money in England are looking for a finished product to bring straight in, not someone to develop at that kind of money. For most clubs around Europe the kind of money we're likely asking is a huge investment.
 
I'd say Bentaleb and Mason are both as versatile as one another. Bentaleb may shade it as he could probably play the holding role as well as a #8. He also did very well as an emergency full back. Mason is a #8 and perhaps a #10, so Bentaleb probably wins it 3-2.

I'd argue that Mason has played a wider range of roles in the first team than Bentaleb

Recent history tells us that clubs from all around are more than willing to do battle with Levy in order to pick up our lesser players and more often than not they cough up big money too. Just ask Sunderland and Hull.

Time and again Levy has shown he is able to extract big money for our flawed rejects yet still they keep coming back for more. Were we not pinching ourselves following Townsend's transfer to Saudi Sportswashing Machine? And that was before the latest Tv rights deal and the absurd sums players are now changing hands for.

As to Bentaleb, you argue he is not quite the finished article yet in 2014-15 he played a very significant role in helping us achieve fifth, no less. The idea that - all else being equal - lesser PL clubs would not covet such a player is to my mind just plain daft.

Levy could yet pull yet another rabbit out of the hat before the deadline but the apparent current lack of interest in Bentaleb seems at best odd. Doubtless he will go out on loan if it comes to it but whatever happens the only way Levy will lose out is if there is some explanation completely unrelated to his innate talent.
