What a player he can become!
If Poch can take him to the next level and coach him when to switch to unselfish mode and play in teammates who are better placed he'll be heading to Muller/Lewandowski/Original Ronaldo levels of effectiveness..

This whole thing of labelling Kane selfish and by implication demanding that he curb his natural strikers instinct. Of course he's selfish, that's why he scores so many.

If he starts hesitating and worrying about bringing others into play what do you think is likely to happen? First there's a damn good chance the pass will be intercepted anyway - how often do we see that happen? Second, there's no guarantee the supposedly better-placed player is going to score either - precisely because he is not a striker. That is not his specialism.

But finally and more importantly by asking Kane to curb his natural instinct you run the risk of blunting his own magnificent scoring edge. His whole game is built on shooting on sight, remember. Take that away and what have you got? Sol-fudging-dado.

I don't remember fans complaining about Shearer being selfish, they were just damn grateful he put the ball in the back of the net as often as he did.

So why cannot we just be grateful that Kane is selfish. The day comes he stops scoring, THAT'S when to start complaining about him being selfish.

As i said it's about taking it to the NEXT LEVEL. The strikers i mentioned are "greedy" enough to score lots of goals AND can play in a better-placed teammate WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT; Without wanting to dirty my post too much, Thierry Henry scored a bucketload AND created a fair few goals by assisting teammates to score whenhe couldn't.
Oh, and i'm very happy with Kane's current level, but i believe he can be BETTER than Shearer...
 
Only one assist isn't a good return for a striker. Luis Suarez, the most complete striker in the world right now (imho) has 15. Christ, even "me me me" Ronaldo has 11! Aguero had 8 assists last year and 6 the one before. And Kane has the eye for the killer pass. He just doesn't play it often enough.

Being a great striker, as he has proven he is, means you'll draw more attention, which leaves other players unmarked. If you start finding them regularly, it makes it so much harder for defenses, because they won't know what your next move is and who to cover first. That makes you even more deadly and takes your game to a rarefied level. He's only 22, though. I'm sure he'll develop that part of his game more with time.

I don't think anyone is complaining. Merely picking up a critique of Kane's game. I'm sure Poch does the same and I'm sure as hell Kane does as well. It's that at the end of the day which separates your Adebayor's and Defoe's from your Ronaldo's and your van Nistelrooy's*.

He is selfish, it has worked very well, and we are all grateful. But being able to make better decisions is always something you should look for to not only be a Spurs great but a football great and I have no doubt that's what Kane will be looking for.

* I was very young whilst watching Van Niestelrooy and think he drew players into the game? However I may well be wrong... If so [insert player here]

So you also believe Ronaldo should shoot less and pass more? That instead of shooting from the hip the moment he had sight of goal, Van Nistlerooy should have said to himself, oh hey, hang on a minute, who can I pass to?

Kane thought has been involved in loads of key passes for goals

He put Alli in for the miss last week for example and put Rose in too last week when he went down in the area

I personally would say it's one of Kane's strengths to bring others in and create. It's why a of people see him as a number 10 style, but he has shown he can do it all.

I do. He takes shots from ridiculous places that have almost zero chance of going in. That's the type of self absorbed prick he is. There's being greedy and then there's the wrong choice.

Some people will never get it. Yes he is a massively self absorbed prick, that's precisely why he scores so many. The two elements are inextricably intertwined. Extract one and you lose the other.

I get Ronaldo just fine. I know exactly what he is about and what his intentions are every time he goes on the pitch. He is about the glory of Ronaldo first and foremost. This can work to the benefit of his team (and mostly does) or detriment of the team if he's having an off one. On plenty of occasions his penchant for shooting every time he gets the ball would have him subbed if it was any other player. It's not the shots or the number of them it is the decision making when it is patently the wrong choice.
Harry may not reach the heights of Ronaldo but making the right choice with the ball is certainly something that would help him along that path.

This has been my POV for a while and I have posted that his assist numbers could/should have been better. The guy is class but he is still a kid and I am sure with Poch geeing him on he will start to broaden his game.
