The Spanish Football Thread

Imagine doing fantasy football in La Liga, must be pretty boring. Basically everyone has Messi and Ronaldo then it's left to the rest to boost the score.

Two games without a win for Zidane. Lost to Atletico and cut adrift in third place. A sacking should be imminent surely?

their best player is out injured, if he can keep them
in the CL spots with that massive hole in the team I think he's done well

“If everyone was at my level, we would be top,” said Ronaldo.

“I don’t want to undervalue any of my teammates, but when the best aren’t there it is difficult to win.”

“I like to play with Pepe, Karim, Bale, Marcelo. I don’t want to say that Jese (Rodriguez), Lucas (Vazquez), (Mateo) Kovavic are not good players, they are very good, but to win a competition you need the best.”

dingdonghead.

I know most won't agree with me but I wouldn't put him in the top three in the world any more. I think both Suarez and Neymar are better than him.

On footballing ability he is, but he is so divisive now that I agree with you.
Suarez is cnut - but at least he is a team cnut

He's that good, if he was a team player Madrid would be top. I almost understand his frustration but it's such a first-world thing in footballing terms. 'If Bale and Benzema were on the pitch, we would win'

You still have class players around you, you idiot.

Come back Gareth.

Edit: not a direct quote but basically what he was saying.

what a manager simoene is, winning at arch rivals REAL 1-0, having watched that game, the whites had very few chances to boot, he doesn't get the credit he deserves

Football is about skill and decisions. Well mostly. He has the first but certainly not the second. What Ronaldo mostly does on the pitch is what I coach my kids NOT to do. I don't think he makes good decisions and his team pays for that. Figuratively and literally.
I won't deny he does score a lot but in Spain it is a skewed statistic IMO. Except for a few of clubs near the top it really is a turkey shoot. As you so aptly put he's not a team cnut.

To be fair he destroyed the premiership and that was before he reached his peak years, he would have scored a ton of goals here if he'd stayed I'm sure.

I'm not sure he is referring to that, by all accounts him and Gareth don't get on at all and one of them will likely leave this summer. I think he's talking about general application e.g. attitudes to training, fitness etc. To be fair he is a super human athlete who is always in fantastic shape.

They are flat track bullies in the main and no manager is going to bridge the gap between Barcelona and themselves. Atletico who I admire and are making them look what they are 'Barca lite'. But Atletico have massive debts apparently which will derail them in the end. Real and Barca are financially advantaged from TV and state/bank loans plus other nefarious "tax rules".
The league needs root and branch change. Its boring - It reminds me Serie A ten or so years ago.

They need to go get Jose Mourinho back - thats how bad the situation is for Real.
But it's a deep rooted Spanish football problem.

Bale should go to City as they are least toxic option for him. Sadly he far to expensive for us.

No, the last thing Madrid needs is Mourinho back, that club doesn't need any more divisiveness. Madrid needs to get rid of Perez, and should be a warning sign to people who want fan ownership.

Madrid in the season under Ancelotti showed a glipse of what they are capable of. Madrid needs to spend money on balance in the squad, not jersey sellers, and they won't, so they will stay behind Barca until the next generation of Barca.

moving on Ronaldo would be a big step in the right direction as well

he's awesome, one of the greatest of all time, but he's become divisive

they are wasting Bale at the minute, if they build the team around him they can dominate again

As mad as it sounds, I kind of agree with moving Ronaldo on. His ego is so massive that it might be a positive to get rid considering he's over 30.

I don't agree with the 2nd part. Barca have at least 3 players who are better than Bale, 4 if you count Iniesta too actually.

50 goals a season is hard to replace, no matter your personal opinion. To me, I would leave the front 3 alone for another year, plus Modric & Navas.

Madrid needs to build a system that can play 4-3-3 (or some variation that accommodates those 3), while managing some kind of match control and defensive capability. You don't need suicidal FB's as you have two of the best/quickest players that can go wide as needed, you don't need more creativity in midfield.

A solid back 4, plus 1 (maybe even 2) DMs, depending on if you sit Modric deeper or more forward, plus current front 3 will beat most sides in the world. The two you add to midfield have to be workhorses because the front 3 aren't the best defensively.

The main issue (and makes you appreciate Poch/Levy now) is decide on a system, buy players that fit that system, and don't just go buy a name for a jersey.

Watching El Classico and cant for the life of me work out how Sergio Ramos is still on the pitch already on a yellow and has since committed 3 yellow card offences!!!
