Nabil Bentaleb

See he's in the under-21 squad again for tonight's game......
Hmm...so no injury then, just left out of the squad last night. I guess you could read all sorts of bad stuff into that. It's a real shame as I've seen enough good stuff last season to tell me that he is a very talented young man. He won't be cheap if we move him on.

I agree about his ability. I'm hoping that Poch can get him revved up and bought into his philosophy over pre-season and that he then stays

Yes, you could clearly see his ability and potential last year. I'd rather have him playing than Carroll.

We need better in CM then both Mason and Bentaleb if we are to really push on. There is a lot of rumours flying around that we are looking at improving our M/F options, I hope so.

You have to remember than Bentaleb is 21 - there's huge scope for him to develop. Mason and Carroll are 25 and 24 respectively in a couple months so in theory much less scope. Personally, if we're going to move one on, I'd get rid of Carroll

Well I guess we will see, its all down to Poch and if he decides to keep one of those three it would be Carroll for me.

I really think we would be silly to get rid of Mason, and to a lesser extent Carroll.. Fergie and utd built title winning sides on players like Mason. Homegrown boys that come through the ranks that whilst not the best in their position, they give 100%, support the other players and happy to play a bit part at times and wait for playing time..

Plenty of untapped potential there; it'll be a real shame if his Spurs career stalls before it has even properly got started because of attitude problems or whatever the rumours are.

untapped or untappable potential ? i always thought often looked great on the ball, however failed to make passes that helped us to progress the game. in fact i often saw the opposite where his passes would put the receiving player in a bit of a fix, with an opponent fast bearing down on him, or putting him on track to meet one.

he is the exact opposite of carrick to me. awkward, gangly and sometimes looking out-of-rhythm, but carrick's passes put a player away from the opponents or past him - progressing our game into the next stage.

in other words - bentaleb appeared to be me a sort of vanity player who tries to make himself look good; carrick the selfless player who tries to progress the game even though he ends up looking a bit awkward or just plain (in order to hide his intention).

i know which one i'd rather be playing with as a player.

I would be disappointed if he can't develop from the promising player we've seen glimpses of, I do have a feeling that he will move on and a change might do him good.

We have to bring in higher quality players in midfield and the forward positions. Some fans seem to think we should just keep bringing through youth but we will get manhandled in the champions league next season (if we get there) with the team we have now imo.

I agree, as you say its all right bringing youth through but they have to be good enough to compete at the top. I have never been convinced that Mason is the answer and from what I have seen I am not sure Bentaleb is either ( although he is still young enough to improve).

We all love seeing our young players make a name for themselves but I do believe that some fans go over the top with the hype and put far too much pressure on some players because of this.

Whatever happened, this must be a very disappointing season for Bentaleb after doing so well last season. Let's hope he'll grow on the experience and come back even better next season. I have my doubts though, something doesn't seem quite right with the whole situation.

how bad are their injuries? i'm actually more interested in the ccv one, seeing that a number of folks here already expect him in the first team now

I'm actually quite relieved that he's injured for the rest of the season. better than him spending the next 2 months in the under 21s....hopefully he can start pre-season well, knuckle down and buy into Poch's regime

Admire your optimism AdamB but once Poch consigns you to the Under 21s, history says that's it, your time's up, there's likely no way back.
