OOMT: Spurs vs Woolwich Nomads

I couldn't disagree more. Nothing happens in a bubble and on the day we played well but not quite well enough.
We must have seen a different game Milo. IMO we didn't play with anywhere near our usual vibrancy, or intensity. Compare this game to last year's one at the lane or even earlier in the season at the Emirates, when we pegged them back around their 18 yard box. In the first half especially they were cutting right through us at will and it's only because of a lack of confidence that they did not score earlier. I thought most players bar Lamela, Rose and Dembele were below par today especially Eriksen and Dier. This is a good Arsenal side but they were on the back of three straight defeats, the last 2 against a patched up Yanited, and Swansea at home. They were their for the taking today, but too many players didn't show up sadly. Now that's probably because young sides are inconsistent I get that but I have to say I am gutted. I am gutted because I didn't want to believe we could challenge this year but they made me believe. Sadly I think we will come up short. Poch has a difficult decision to make. Tbh, he could gamble and just go for it in the PL and sacrifice the EL. Or accept we are not going to win the league and put our efforts into the EL. I don't think we have the capacity to win both and going for both equally could mean we end up winning neither.

Man that game sucked the life out of me. A week ago I believed we could win the title but now I'll actually be delighted with a CL spot. Crazy to say when we are sitting second but I know in the darkest parts of my mind that the Sanchez goal will be a pivotal moment in Arsenal's season. I know this post will elicit the usual barbed responses to stop moaning but I've seen this movie before and I can't help but feel like this when we let these watershed moments slip by us again (and again). Arsenal fuсkers.

I feel your pain.

Why is it that because they got the late equaliser i don't want to watch MOTD, wheras if we had got the late equaliser I would want to watch it, despite it meaning the same number of points.

Sorry, disappointment is one thing getting it wrong is another. When they went down to 10 men we scored 2 goals in three minutes and were unlucky not to get a third. A critical moment in the match was when Sanchez looked to get Lamela sent off down near the corner of the Shelf and Paxton. The cheating qunt absolutely convinced Poch it was time to make a sub (doubtless worried about a second yellow) , and I would argue that it changed the course of the game (along with them playing three forwards). We showed tremendous spirit. It is a huge shame we couldn't see it out, but I have no worries about the effort...I do think a few are tired, and Alli is not 100% in my view.

Yes, well observed Steff.
I remarked about this during the match thread. Lamela was everywhere and getting between the lines, refused to be knocked off the ball and showed a lot of energy.
Sanchez desperately tried to even up the score and unfortunately 'Poch 'fell' for it, for want of a better word.
Lamela fouls quite a bit, gets a lot of yellows, but never gets sent off. Not that stupid after all (ala Cocquelin).
As remarked, Dembele going off also didn't help. Seems that him going off was pre-meditated and was always going to happen.
I hope not, as I don't think you can always stick with decisions made beforehand.

Because we blew it and didnt save it.

I know exactly what you mean, same number of points, but the fact we let the lead slip makes a hell of a difference

Yes, we played well. But that was a GOLDEN opportunity we didn't take today, both to go top AND to pull away from L'Arse - and at home and vs 10 men. I can't remember a better opportunity...

Football doesn't work like that and I do not agree that we pulled away

Arsenal fans celebrating a draw against us like they've won the league, how the roles have reversed.

is point 1. Point 2 is that just because the traditional "Big 4" spend shed loads, it doesn't make them into a team, while we ARE a functioning team.
Point 3. If we make the CL (and it is an "if"), we will sign one or two seriously good players, who fit our system. We will be an even stronger team next season.

Erm.....what makes you say that?

I honestly think Arsenal got somewhat lucky with their goals today. There is no way Ramsey meant for his flick to scoop up over Lloris. And Sanchez definitely scuffed his effort and yes of course, Lloris will probably be disappointed not to have saved it.

So so frustrated today. That Kane goal deserved to be another memorable North London Derby winner.

first off, lets praise the ref, the boy Oliver is a top man in black, the only thing he got wrong today was a possible 2nd card for Dier who was appalling btw, when u don't mention the ref, he had a great game.

My goat is LLoris for the first goal as well as the second, goalkeeping is about positioning yourself, both shots weren't hit that hard, he didn't get a strong enough hand to them, I've seen him keep those out before.
As for the game itself, we've got to stop going a goal down, I know our record of saving games/points from that position but we've got to be more clinical, all our first half shots were straight at Ospina, top teams score with half chances, they don't need time to "test" the keeper. Watching Leicester Watford summed up todays PL, Watford had more chances than Leicester to win the game but they didn't have the self belief, If Coquelin hadn't of made that stupid tackle, would we have got back in the game? At 2-2, the team that looked the most dangerous was the one with 10 men, don't underestimate that last minute, last ditch tackle by Wimmer, thats a goal if he doesn't make that.

Playing two top 5 teams in 3 days is hard so I'm not too down on only getting a point but we've got to get that belief back. By the same token, Rome wasn't built in a day, There's always next year and the year after, football is changing before our eyes, imagine Leicester, Tottenham, West Ham in the champions league next season.

Oliver was good, but both Dier and Bellerin should have been sent off if he were to be consistent. Disappointed we didn't hold on to the lead, and it now means the league is for Leicester to lose. But we just have to keep going and not worry about the other teams. We can still win two massive trophys!

However 'lucky' their goals were you have to give them credit for coming back when playing with 10 men AND looking the more likely to score the winner (i mean HOW the fudge did that situation happen??)

I'm hoping it will give them and esp Wenger 'false confidence' and they get roostery thinking all is well and that they can carry on as is...and keep sloppily dropping points that they shouldn't....
...however i fear Sanchez will go on a run of goalscoring form to paper over their cracks and overtake us. Again.

The good thing about Leicester winning is that they may give up on the league soon and only concentrate on finishing ahead of us..

The loss of control was because Lamela went off and Mason is not on his game, Chadli, though is not the sort of player who wrests "control" back, neither is Son. I would have replaced Eriksen today rather than Lamela because he was having a poor game. But it is easy to say in hind sight.

There was nothing that needed wrestled back, just status quo to remain.

It was something we lost through the subs... It anyone needed to watch the difference between players with heart, for me this game shows it. We lost something when lamela, Dembele and rose went off.

As frustrated as i am about today's draw, i'm fascinated to know how it happened from a tactical point of view as to how we let a lead slip vs 10 men.
What i mean is how did Arsenal do it? I don't just mean the goal i'm talking about how Arsenal were able to gain control of the game (whereby they had clearer chances to win after the equaliser) even though we are renowned for being hard to play against AND we had a man advantage?

It NEVER happens to us (usually) when we are in their position vs a top 4/5 team and there are a few teams who routinely cope with a man down: Mourinho's teams and Rafa's teams seem particularly adept at coping. If they get back into it they tend to rely on that great equalising factor when a man down: the set-piece. Arsenal's goal was odd and interesting to me as it was not from a set-piece.
On the flipside if it was us who went down to ten men vs them you can bet your last pound that we wouldn't have comeback like that; in fact usually we are spanked in similar circumstances vs a top 4/5 side.

So basically, how did Arsenal do it? Was the fact they seemed to have players like Ramsay, Bellerin and Sanchez who like to make fast runs from deep a big factor?
Very intriguing....

In a situation when WE are the ones with a man down and losing then heart can come into the discussion imo. Perhaps evenif it's 11 v11.
But when WE have a man advantage as well as a goal advantage then the 'heart' issue is irrelvant imo.
Tactics and skills were much important in that scenario imo, and i find that fascinating in this context..
