Ok just looked at the stats for the WBA away game and it was :

23 shots vs 9 shots in our favour
9 shots on target to 4 shots on target in our favour
14 shots off target to 5 shots of target in our favour
59% to 41% possession in our favour

You could do the same thing about the game Bale missed against Sunderland.

Luckily Bale has only missed 2 League games this season (although the Everton game were he was wasted on the right might count as 3!).
Similarly we're lucky Modric has only missed 2.

We're talking about this season where we had Bale, Ade and Modric (hence me also missing out the first 2 games of this season). Why would we bring up brick from 2 seasons back.

I understand that, but then it's stupid for people to bring up Modric's record in big games in the past. Still for me, Modric is our best player and our most important player.

Ok i will:

16 shots vs 8 shots in our favour
4 shots on target vs 4 shots on target
12 shots off target vs 4 shots off target in our favour
61% to 39% possession in our favour

That's a home game btw and if you actually watched both games you can see a clear difference in our style of play and how we played in general. I do agree that analysing 1 game doesn't prove much but thats the only game we can actually analyse being that thats the only game he's missed (i know he missed another game but i'm looking at games since Ade signed).

But we don't have a Ronaldo/Messi/Van Persie type goal scorer in our team.
We have Ade on 13 goals and Bale, Defoe and Vdv on 9 goals.
Whereas Ronaldo has 37, Messi 36 and Van Persie 26.

Bale is our most dangerous attacking player. The point I made was relative of course to his attacking worth in our team

Gareth has 11 goals this season compared to Adebayor's 14 (a considerable percentage of which are pens)

The main reason we have stuggled to beat some of the lesser sides in recent years is because of our inability to put our chances away despite the brilliant play of Modric and the other midfielders.

One of the main reasons we blew 4th last season - no personnel available to finish off all chance midfield was creating

Cant believe there has not been 1 vote for Parker. It reaffirm's my thoughts of there being quite a few clueless fans among us.

Funny how two people can see the same matches and see them entirely differently. I'm of the opinion that we fail to kill off 'lesser opponents' because when they park the bus we very quickly become predictable and lack penetration. We may take a lot of shots but they seem to be speculative.

Parker plays a simple role (very well) that is entirely covered within the squad. If he disappeared we wouldnt miss him, we could replace him with relative ease.

That's not as easy as you think, weve been trying to do that for the past 15 years. We got a taste of it with Palacios and a glimpse of it with Sandro but Parker is that man we have missed.

I actually chose Friedel, and I'll tell you why. Not only do we have an experienced, consistent and top goalkeeper but he has given the 4 in front of him bags of confidence, and Parker coming in has given the back 4 confidence too as they know they have that sure thing in front of them and behind. Due to this it takes the pressure off the midfield to play knowing if they have backs to the wall moments they have the confidence to deal with it. The midfield then with little stress can play with the freedom to the front players, the front players then also dont have the pressure of knowing that they need to score 3/4 every game to win. I think Brad is the most important and Parker being a very very close 2nd. It's all to do with trust.

52 so far have voted for Modric even though last season we won more games without him playing. It's baffling.

Wait.. so you can't believe nobody has voted for parker?

When you yourself have also not voted for parker?

So you must be one of those clueless fans right?

My fudging brick? that's my second post in like a month... 8-[

I got bored of all the arrogant egocentric posters and decided to take a break.

Have we been trying? We have been crying out for it, thats for sure. But have we been trying? How hard can it be to buy someone to do the simplest job on the field? I think rather than him being irreplacable its more likely we have simply had a succession of Managers (and DOF) who had a massive blind spot for that area of the team.

Parker is unavailable? Sandro can do that job. Sandro unavailable? Livermore can do that job.

Modric unavailable? no one can do that job, not even remotely close to the rat man.

As to the last season comment, I believe the context of the question is NOW, so last season is basically irrelevant.
