Roberto Soldado

Can you name another game he played well in? Only one I can remember is QPR and they are a shocking side.

If we were picking players on past achievements then Lennon would be in the team every week.

As I said - I have no beef with soldado nor will I stick behind Ade at any costs. My point is that 9/10 Ade will bring far more to the table.

The issue with soldado is that so many people went very big, early doors on him and are hoping beyond hope that he can prove them right. I was super excited as well but last year he was awful. Also it is convenient for people to say that 'TS left him out and under AVB he was starved of service' ..... Lest not forget that sherwood gave him a chance and after consistently missing sitters and failing to impact on games with an inform partner, he was rightfully dropped. The guy will always struggle in our team and in the premier league in general and so far he has proved me right.

I do think that against city he showed some heart and I would give him more opportunities in the next few weeks. The reason why Ade should play against Saudi Sportswashing Machine is that they will sit deep and we will have little or no space. If we play with soldado we will have to find the perfect pass (as we did for the first 4 months of last season) and we may well struggle. A bit of physicality up there will make a big difference and will hopefully stop them sitting too deep as we can go more direct. Play Kane if need be but I think for games like that we should leave bob out if he plays on his own

hmm i disagree with that, i think - Saudi Sportswashing Machine don't stick 10 men behind the ball and even if they did Adebayor has shown once already this season he is ineffective against such opposition (West Brom, could probably stretch to West Ham as well) it was the interplay between the attacking players that was encouraging against City and i think we'll be able to replicate that against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, with the same players.

One thing I will say which is a positive is all the Spurs supporters in general who say we don't back our players can have a look at this thread. Here is a player we paid a record fee for who has struggled mightily to find any form for us in a year and a half but it seems like the majority on here still are backing him that is a good thing.

Personally I don't think he will come good for us at least nothing close to what we had hoped but I do hope he can get us some goals this season and would love for him to prove me wrong and start banging them in

I think that he should start this weekend too. We talk about players getting selected on merit, well for a man who has not had a sniff of first team football this season, he linked up very well with the three behind him and I think that deserves retaining his place.

During the international break I questioned whether his link up play would be good enough for a Poch team. I was glad to be proved wrong.

I would play Ade on Thursday and tell him that the first team place is his to win back.

If we want physicality that actually does something rather than just being physicality on paper we should play Kane, not Ade.

I like having a target man option, as does Poch it would seem. But Ade hasn't really provided that for us anywhere near consistently this season. Several games Defoe would have been a more effective target man than Ade was. I would rather see Soldado given another chance.

I'd play Kane because Soldado clearly isn't able.

I agree with all of that except your last sentence. I don't think that will motivate Ade at all and will only be counter productive to our (admittedly near-pointless) ITV4 Cup aspirations.

It's also likely to do some damage to Kane's confidence as he's been pretty good so far. Unless he sees Saturday backup as an improvement on Thursday first choice, of course.

Nah, play Ade and enjoy how motivated he may look against the Cypriot side - at home - with the galeforce winds :D

I'd play Kane because Soldado clearly isn't able.

If that was true there would be no reason to continue the conversation in this thread.

As it is though form is temporary and plenty of players have had poor seasons and gone on to be rather decent. Didn't Defoe go 10 months scoring only a single premier league goal or something silly like that. But he had proven himself in the Premier League before, and did so after too.

For some reason because the poor season Soldado had was his first season in the Premier League people think it's fine to just write him off. I cannot get my head around that logic. Similar logic to what was said about Chadli last season and this summer I suppose. Now, not so much.

Not at all - the spurs fans who wrote chadli off at the end of last season did so because he was an unknown quantity who hadn't done too much. He improved consistently from feb onwards and even when he started to play well people still said he was rubbish.

As spurs fans, we cling onto the glamour signings and pray they come off - soldado doesn't have the basic tools or hunger to do well in the prem. That's my opinion and from what I see and what I hear ....'Sherwood's comments on him were not in anyway a shock. I hope I am wrong but for me the performance against city was an exceptional one against a team
Who had little or no respect for us and did not worry about shutting up shop.

Again please let me be wrong, but on Sunday I see us not being able to create anything with him up top. Ade does a lot more work than people give him credit for and brings people into the game. I don't get why people do not see that he is asked to work channels to give us the ball higher up - soldado struggles with this hence I would imagine he is instructed not to. With our 2011 team, soldado would have had a chance of doing well but in our current state he isn't up to it.

It's ridiculous, but one game where he played well as he was afforded some space, people are now jumping on the bandwagon that he should be first choice? Some of these people are the ones who don't give rose any respect despite being our best player this season so far. This is what annoys me about our fans and out overall outlook on our team.

No, people are saying that he should get a few games to play with the likes of Eriksen, Chadli and Lamela, just like Ade has - and seeing as he (Ade) hasn't pulled up many trees, why not?

Probably because Kane should be starting. Deserves a chance so bad. I would start soldado and Kane up top on thurs.....

I have agreed in saying that soldado has brought himself back from the dead a little with his performance on sat, but this now doesn't mean that he should be number one or that it's a complete justification of his star quality... Several people are making comments along this line which is ludicrous - his time has spurs has been utterly appalling overall so let's take baby steps with him.

My dream would be for both him and Ade to to be sold by summer and we start again.

I don't think anyone is saying that LCLC, just that he deserves a run as the front 4 looked better on saturday and he made a decent contribution

I've not been on here the last couple of days but has anyone said such a thing? I've only seen people say he deserves to start the next few games to see if he can get something going for us in attack (which we've clearly been missing this season with ade up top).

who would you bring in to replace them?

I agree with Kane deserving a start, I think he has earned it. I dont want to give up on Soldado just yet but my head is saying that it will never happen for him at spurs.
