Welbeck

I should have qualified that with "from last season", not his overall career to date. Obviously it's unlikely he'd keep that rate up but it shows he can score when played as a striker.

...

he makes defenders turn and face their own goal which makes marking the in the box poacher more difficult

He will sign for the Goons. Deal pretty much done now that Giroud out long-term with broken ankle.

Let's help out our rival for 4th. The issues at United run beyond whoever is manager, they have zero clue when it comes to the transfer market. Since they became unable to simply outbid everyone else for the biggest talents it's really gone downhill. Still overspending, but on average players.

You're not suggesting that Di Maria is an average player, I hope?

I'm a bit undecided on him, but I do feel it's a poor way to spend all that money.

It's too much money for him, certainly. And I'm pretty sure that Utd know it.

But money isn't an issue for them - not in the context of possibly missing out on the Champions League for a second successive season and what that would imply in terms of their attractiveness to sponsors (of which they currently have a huge number, paying a huge amount).

Whether his type of player (and the positions he plays) is what they most need is the more pertinent question, IMO.

I think Welbecks a decent player. But he's not got the instinct to be notching 20 a season. He offers some useful things, strong, a handful. A bit like Ade but at least Ade has the instinct to score goals.

Let's hope Giroud's ankle isn't that bad. I think Welbeck might prove more effective for Arsenal than Giroud.

I'd be happy if Welbeck came to Spurs. He always seems like an intelligent player on the pitch in terms of movement, and has scored some clever goals.
On the negative side, his strike rate isn't that good at Man U, or on loan at Sunderland. Although pre 2014, it was good for England.

Bit of an enigma, Danny.

I'm with you on that. Also not sure how he and Mata will fit into the team, along with Rooney and RVP. Maybe in a 4-3-3 with Mata in one of the advanced roles? Certainly cant get the 4 of them into the 3-5-2 which LVG has played so far

Giroud is top class imo and one of the goons most important players.

He may not be a "top top player" but the game against Everton was example enough of the difference and focal point he brings to the goons. Without him they will need to sign another Striker who can hold the line.

I think Welbeck would be an absolutely fantastic signing. He could get 20 for us in the JayRod role and provide top cover for Ade.
