Danny Rose

Could see Southampton taking him on after Shaw gets sold maybe. People were raving about Rose at Sunderland last year when in reality he seemed defensively weak, he is unfortunately a winger trying to become a fullback, it may be a while before he comes good and even then he may not be all that. I still don't think our overall systen benefits our defence though. I'd love to see what would happen if someone like Pulis got hold of them for a month or two. No doubt we'd be better for it

failed winger at best - his crossing and passing is atrocious. His speed and his tenaciousness are his best traits. That said he could still be a threat if we were playing with a solid center e.g. a DM and two speedy CBs.

From not having many home grown players for decades (bar Ledley), we're now blessed with a selection of premiership quality players who have't been bought for large fees. I'd say its the best group of young, inhouse developed, players we've ever had. Credit to Levy, and to Sherwood, here.

Rose, Bentaleb, Townsend, Kane and previously Caulker. In terms of transfers they are worth tens of millions. Caulker was what £10m, the rest would command a similar fee each, possibly more.

For all the zhit Sherwood gets, he did a fantastic job with the youth team. He has ability as a coach there is no doubt.

Alex Inglethorpe did the lion's share of work between 2006/12...

So instead of rectifying that by posting something positive yourself you'd rather have a go at other posters for also not doing it?

Come on man...where in my post was i having a go? i asked a question being that this thread was bumped and absolutely nothing about how well he's been playing.

Look at the reply from harr. You know what it looks like. It's a "what's wrong with this place/you guys?"

If you had just written a good post praising Rose and his performances I'm sure others would join in. Often these responses are started by just one poster starting it.

Tbh that approach is used in near enough every thread and has been for some time.

It's easy to criticise the players that the majority don't rate but when said player performs well.....you hear/read nothing.

Exactly, its a shame. I must rate Rose higher than most, I love his tenacity and the only thing that annoys me about him is how poor his crossing is. Which when he puts in the occasional gem makes it even more infuriating! But then again the majority of wingers' end product isn't great so maybe we are expecting too much....

To be honest it's because for the most part he has been no where near good enough. Still young and I guess criticism about how poor we've been as a unit perhaps due to being poorly drilled as a back four should buy him some slack too.

I know it was a bit petulant by Rose to push the Stoke player, but haven't we been crying out for someone with a bit of 'fight' in them in our squad recently?

Rose is a good player, and I feel he is a great option to have in the squad on the left-hand side. He's still young enough to improve greatly and we should be looking to keep him with us at least for another season or two, to see how he progresses. Of course we can say he wouldn't get into any of the top 4 teams' first 11 at the moment, but as it stands we are on a slightly lower tier to them in terms of squad quality (and rightly so given our resources), so it's unfair to put that barometer on our squad.

Of course, we need to be looking at bringing in top quality, but the players we have in our squad, with the right manager and system, could put up a very strong fight for a Top 4 finish (hell, we weren't that far off this season even with the turmoil within the club!). This isn't to say we shouldn't look to improve our squad, including Rose, if the opportunity arises.

Thought he did well Saturday. We all agree Rose still has a hell of a lot to learn, the way he can go completely AWOL, his crass crossing, his hot-headedness, etc, but that was such a well taken goal and I like the way defensively he imposes himself so physically in the tackle, similar to Walker. Leaves his opponent no doubt they're in a tough battle with him.

Agree with Mail reporter's take on the Shawcross incident -

Stoke supporters were incensed when Ryan Shawcross was sent off by Andre Marriner for a tackle on Rose in the second half, even though replays showed it was a challenge that merited the yellow card it got - Shawcross’s second.

As for the push on Cameron, if Marriner takes the immediate action on Cameron by calling him over to book him like he should have done, that push doesn't happen, so maybe this explains why Rose only got the yellow.

Credit to Sherwood for swiftly diffusing the situation following that fracas in pulling Rose right out of the ridiculous cauldron of hate the Britannia had become, because by then Stoke knew all they had to do is nobble him once more to provoke a second retaliation and get himself sent off.

Would hope is something he can improve on but who knows....

I hope so too.

It's actually surprising to me that he hasn't improved more so far. When he first broke through he put in some very good crosses I thought, and he can strike the ball pretty sweetly. To me it seems a bit like it's his composure letting him down, he's not taking the time to look up, find the right option and put in the good ball. It all gets a bit stressed when on the ball.

I thought the yellow card was right. It's out of line, but he didn't punch or kick the player. To me a yellow for that is fine.

The Shawcross sending off was perhaps a tad harsh, often you see players get a final warning for something like that, but the ref was well within his rights to show Shawcross the red.

Edit: Oh, and I agree, Sherwood got it spot on to take Rose off.

He comes across as a horrible, nasty person and he's a terrible terrible footballer.

Hope the new boss gets rid as quick as he can.

That is a ridiculously over the top assessment...

Seconded. There is no way I would say he is a nasty person, although he does have a short fuse. I do however think that he is a way off the quality we need in that position, mainly due to the fact that he is a converted winger. I think we all hoped that he would really come along this year, but I don't think his defensive game has improved at all. If we had had a coach working with the defence then maybe he would've but if anything he's plateaued.

Wow. Super harsh...

He's clearly a PL level left back at least at a relatively young age.

I haven't seen anything to indicate that he's a horrible or nasty person. He lets his emotions get the better of him on the pitch once in a while just like a lot of footballers and particularly juts like a lot of young footballers.

He doesn't come across like that at all. He comes across as a pretty decent guy with a hot steak when pushed. If you see his interviews he's fine, when he plays he doesn't do dirty tackles or have a go at the officials etc etc. He's just very hot headed when something is done to him and he reacts (again not in a malicious way).
