The Blue & Yellow ITK Bonanza Thread

How can we think about the title? We have been in the CL once, could have and should have been in it twice ... but at both times, we threw it away. Not the material of champions.

But I dare to dream if we can keep Bale and get in a few more.

So? Do you honestly look at other squads and think they are that much better than ours? Are their managers that much better? We get in a couple more, which seems entirely possible, and keep Bale - or replace him with even more quality with the fee received - and we can absolutely be contenders.

Some EPL squads have better players than ours. But not THAT much better. I think our squad is shaping up and will improve before the window shuts.

But, but...so much is down to the manager/coach. I am hoping that Mourinho is a falling star and Pellegrini flops. Wenger will get top 4-he always does. Moyes is the weakest link.

We will get top 3 because AVB knows what he is doing.

Honestly the thing is we had a settled squad of players, and now we have brought in a raft of changes which should be all positive. But teams do take time to settle and learn how to play with each other. With the bale transfer looming I doubt we will get into full gear until after January.

I dont doubt our team on paper, but in practice its a lot more to it than just lumping loads of good players together.

We have improved and i look forward to the new season.

I don't think Wenger is a certainty to get top 4 at all. They've always had some advantage over us. Either it's the England job distracting our manager, or we've had a new manager implementing new ideas, or that we've simply been holding back investment and heading into a season with Defoe and Adebayor as our only strikers.

This season is different though. We've invested in quality. We have a quality manager. We've pushed our squad to a level that means it should compete with the top clubs in this league. That doesn't mean we will definitely finish ahead of them or that Arsenal will definitely drop out, but for some reason the press and rival fans keep taking about it like a 3 horse race, with Spurs being thankful to be hanging on to their coat-tails. But I look at it like a 5 horse race, and I couldn't predict who will end up where. If Arsenal get Suarez and Gustavo, then I really won't know what the heck to predict.

But we will be up there. Right in amongst it. Even among Chelsea, City and United.

Who: JJ
Where: SC
When: August 12th

Firstly Bale.....

We are exactly in a Modric situation now with him! So he could stay now but my money is on him leaving!

As alluded to, Scotty P has gone and Capoooey is done and will be announced tomorrow I'd imagine.

Danny boy trying to sell everyone else!! (that is called exaggeration to all the posters that take everything so literally)

Agreed, but we would need another striker then. Who would you go for?

I don't know. Someone young and non-PL for affordability issues. If he doesn't nail down a starting spot over the next couple of season we could easily recoup the money spent. Even Chamakh keeps getting PL loans.

Ade could well leave but how does 2 out and one in leave us needing another 2?

I didn't say that. Dempsey has gone and if ade and defoe leave as well then signing two more and gojng into next season with Soldado, [new senior CF], [new young CF] I think is fine but if you remove one of those signings then you're relying on Kane (who might be loaned out anyway)

Because some people think we need 3 strikers.(i don't particuarly, if we're desperate Kane can play)

Personally i think Ade is going. (frees some wages up and imo AVB doesn't want anyone who may disrupt the group during the season) People say that Ade should stay as he offers something different , but i can't see him fitting into any way that AVB proposes to play. I cannot believe how many posters hold out hope for him. That halley's comet performance against Chelsea at the bridge, i loved, but the rest of his contribution adds up to didley squat.

Soldado does replace defoe, but they are similar. Soldado looks a better all round forward who really understands the game. The vital thing is that we cannot guarantee that Soldado will be injury free, and he is obviously gonna need a rest at some point and the thing that most people moan about is not having like for like replacements. For all we know a new style of playing may actually help defoe, especially if it focuses on giving the front man many chances. Defoe can finish. And he is happy at Tottenham.
