Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Depends what assurances AVB was given. Did Levy caveat his promise with 'unless we receive a bid of £85m' ? I don't buy these arguments that AVB knew all along or that he should know not to trust Levy in the first place.

Why not? Do you believe anyone in football is stupid enough to think that there's no price that could buy any player?

Re: Gareth Bale

This could break us as a club if Bale is sold.

AVB may well walk out and the chances of Baldini staying are low. I can see the return of David Pleat as manager come the beginning of the season :( .

I Still think Bale is staying though :p

Yeah our DoF will surely walk if he gets the burden of spending an extra 100m on the squad.

Re: Gareth Bale

So as things stand, assuming Soldado goes through, we're looking at this in all probability:

..............................Lloris
..Walker....Vertonghen.....Kaboul.......Naughton/Rose
............................Sandro
...................Paulinho.....Dembele
..........Lennon.........................Chadli
...........................Soldado

I'm pretty sure that Benny is on his way, so as it stands it's one of Rose or Naughton, either of whom fill me with confidence.
I also get the feeling Chadli is going to move ahead of Siggy et al for the Bale position.

i think we will buy a Bale replacement and maybe one other attacker, plus a left back....

As things stand Bales a Spurs player mate ;)

Re: Gareth Bale

The only way Levy can redeem himself in my eyes is by using the money to give everyone a partial refund on their members and STs before cancelling the stubhub arrangment and issuing a full apology. But I'm not convinced he'll do that.

So what you want is cheap tickets and brick players? I don't think West Ham have sold their ST allocation yet - might be worth a try.

Re: Gareth Bale

If the unthinkable happens, do we want modric as part of the deal for next to nothing as Madrid stil owe

Re: Gareth Bale

Do you really think he will get that amount to spend? £50M has already be spent.

even if we get 100 mill for Bale, we are not going to spend all of it this summer. There is no need, and tbh id be happy if we spent half and put the other half towards building the new stadium

the 50 mill already spent should have nothing to do with selling Bale. If it turns out that it is, then Spurs knew we would be selling Bale and everything has simply been a charade.

Re: Gareth Bale

That's what people tried to say about Bale...didn't last long, did it?

yeah but Bale is a Real Madrid nut and his idol is Ronaldo

I dont think Baines has any attraction towards Tottenham, unless he loves his chicken and regular trips Chick King on the High Road is too tempting to pass up on

Re: Gareth Bale

Cnutathan Barnett, Bale's agent, is a busy ol runt this summer. There is Bale, he has already negotiated Caulker's move, and is in on the Darren Bent deal too

Even if we get £300 million and spend it all on players we can realistically attract within our wage structure and given our current status, we will be worse off if we sell Bale.

Selling him now is really, really bad business for Spurs. Especially for the quality of the team, but also financially.

I'd be busy too if it gave me a few million £ for 2 months work.

Why not? As it stands, the club was planning to go in to the new season with Bale, and any new signings were made assuming he would stay.

If we have to sell Bale, I would want and expect us to try and minimise the impact of his leaving as much as possible. And that means adding back to the goals Bale brings to the team, whether through a key mega signing or a number of quality signings that can share the burden.

The club would be massively stupid if they were to say, 'Andre, you've already had your 50, you get another lot next year' and fortunately they aren't stupid. They wanted to keep Bale. They want to be successful on the pitch. If we get the money I fully expect it to be reinvested.

With that amount of money in thr bank our wage structure would be a little higher id have thought

Again, I'm not so sure.

Our wage structure seems to have been widened/increased or whatever this summer. We broke it for Ade seemingly, we would have broken it for Bale. I don't think the 'No CL' argument is actually a problem if we are willing to pay the money, so if we see quality players and have the money to bid for them I think they would come.

It's a shame because Bale this season with us probably would have been an absolute monster and it wouldn't surprise me if he got at least 40 goals. But if we got 2 20 goal players to replace him, we'd be ok. And with the money we can get for Bale, I think we can.

The fee we will get for Bale if we sell him will only last so long if we spend it on increased wages.
And two good players doesn't equal one great - there are only room for 11 players at a time.

Don't get me wrong, I too believe we will be perfectly fine without Bale, whether we buy these two 20 goal players or not. The problem is that with him, we'd be much better. The frustrating thing is that players of his calibre don't come around very often, at least not for a club like Spurs. It's a long shot, but I think that with Bale in the team, we'd be in with an outside chance for the title the coming season. Without him, definitely not.
