Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Part of me hopes AVB will walk out of the club on principle.

Principle, I doubt any of us genuinely though that Madrid would alledgedly want to pay a world record fee for Bale, its a game changer im afraid..

They offer £40m or £50m no deal

Re: Gareth Bale

This could break us as a club if Bale is sold.

AVB may well walk out and the chances of Baldini staying are low. I can see the return of David Pleat as manager come the beginning of the season :( .

I Still think Bale is staying though :p

Re: Gareth Bale

Depends what assurances AVB was given. Did Levy caveat his promise with 'unless we receive a bid of £85m' ? I don't buy these arguments that AVB knew all along or that he should know not to trust Levy in the first place.

Re: Gareth Bale

Time to prepare ourselves to see how hard it is to entice top players without the lure of big wages or CL football.

And we'll have to pay OTT money because other clubs will see that we've just taken 100m from Real.

I think we should go for Baines from everton straightaway. Quality LB who can score and create.
We then need an AM who scores goals. Not sure who.

I can see us being in the usual position of not having our ducks in a row before the season starts.
So, so disappointing.

Re: Gareth Bale

this Morata chap is the 2013 Frazier Campbell

Soldado is the new Pavlyuchenko

2pts from the first 8 games anyone??

doubt Baines will leave the North West.....loves his home comforts

Re: Gareth Bale

The only way Levy can redeem himself in my eyes is by using the money to give everyone a partial refund on their members and STs before cancelling the stubhub arrangment and issuing a full apology. But I'm not convinced he'll do that.

Re: Gareth Bale

What's the betting we get 50m up front and the balance in the next few years, and that levy will then tell AVB he's already had the 50m and spent it on Soldado, Chadli and this new Romanian!!

EXCLUSIVE: Matt Le Tissier tells Gareth Bale Spurs is where his heart is

MATT LE TISSIER knows all about becoming a club legend. It is why he believes Gareth Bale must think with his trademark heart before turning his back on Tottenham.

Le Tissier is a fellow product of the Southampton youth system and thinks Bale is in danger of being railroaded towards Real Madrid without fully considering the option of cult status at White Hart Lane.

“Bale has to listen to what his heart is telling him and not make a move that is bad for him as a person,” said Le Tissier, below.

“It is not such a bad option to stay and become the greatest player in a club’s history. I had no regrets about doing that at Southampton and if Bale stays he will be knocking on the door of the Champions League and who knows what he could achieve at Tottenham.

“Stay there. Become a legend like Glenn Hoddle. He should at least consider that as an option. Everybody is different. My ambition when I started playing was to play for England and I achieved that.

“I never had a desire to play for the biggest team. It was beyond my wildest dreams that one day I would be considered one of the best players in the club’s history.

“Other people, though, want to earn as much money as possible – after all, it is only a short career. Players might also be motivated by the desire to win things – and Gareth would certainly do that in a couple of seasons at Real Madrid.”

The closest that Le Tissier, now a Sky pundit, came to leaving the Saints was in 1990 when, ironically, it was Spurs who were the “big team” trying to lure him away.

But Le Tissier knocked back their interest because he had just got married and was settled – the sort of behind-the-scenes issues that could sway the final decision for Bale, whose first daughter, Alba, was born nine months ago.

Le Tissier, now 44, spent his whole career at Southampton, scoring 161 times in 443 league games.

And whatever Bale’s thoughts, Le Tissier believes that the money being bandied about by Real Madrid is “compensation enough” for Tottenham so the decision should now rest in the 24-year-old’s hands.

If the player does decide it is time to pack his bags, there is no doubt in Le Tissier’s mind that his experiences to date will be the perfect preparation to make a success of his time in Spain.

He said: “I had heard about him at Southampton when he was coming through the ranks and I saw him make his debut. The thing I remember from early on is him swinging in a free-kick round the wall. Not only was it an impressive strike but, also, he had the confidence to take set-pieces when he was only 17. I did not take free-kicks until I was 21.

“Then when he went to Tottenham he famously did not win any of his first 24 matches. But coming through that will have helped him. If he starts slowly at Real, at least he knows that there is light at the end of the tunnel. And there is no danger of him going 24 matches without a victory at Real. Gareth would be playing under his seventh manager by then!”

Re: Gareth Bale

If we sell Bale i can't see us getting in a top class replacement. I think after Soldado and a new CB maybe even possibly a LB our spending will be done.

Re: Gareth Bale

So as things stand, assuming Soldado goes through, we're looking at this in all probability:

..............................Lloris
..Walker....Vertonghen.....Kaboul.......Naughton/Rose
............................Sandro
...................Paulinho.....Dembele
..........Lennon.........................Chadli
...........................Soldado

I'm pretty sure that Benny is on his way, so as it stands it's one of Rose or Naughton, either of whom fill me with confidence.
I also get the feeling Chadli is going to move ahead of Siggy et al for the Bale position.
