Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

This clearly is a risk, although is an unlikely scenario. Personally, I've always felt Bale is injury prone (one of the reasons why I just don't understand why someone would pay £80m + for him). But these injuries are still a rarity.

I agree, actually. I don't fancy their start to the season and fancy a flutter on them to lose their first three (Cardiff A, Chelsea H, Liverpool A). I've gone for Chelsea-City-Arsenal and Chelsea-Arsenal-City trebles for top three next season, something like 80-1 each. I think you also get a much better price on naming the top four (not in order, City/Chelsea/Arsenal and for me Spurs) than betting on United NOT to make the top four.

Actually, bit of a tangent here but with or without Bale I think next year looks good for us. Everton will be much weaker without Moyes. Liverpool have to contend with no Suarez even if he stays (start of season). The expected title challengers all have new bosses. Arsenal are the only rivals who look like they will be clearly stronger, with few setbacks. So I think top five is very much ours to lose, and all it takes is one of those new bosses to have a shocker and we could be pushing one of those big boys out.

couthino is going to be the star for liverpool next season i think

Re: Gareth Bale

talkSPORT interviewing David Pleat live on air – just a few minutes ago – have revealed that he believes that Tottenham have not actually received a formal bid, in writing for Gareth Bale.

Pleat a former Spurs manager, now Tottenham’s Director of Football at White Hart Lane expressed the view that the media storm in relation to Bale was largely media born as well as media driven.

The Real Madrid friendly outlet Marca have excelled themselves this week by actually rehashing Luka Modric’s quotes from the time his head was turned/he went on strike prior to joining Los Blancos

Re: Gareth Bale

If the rumours are correct Real can't afford it and still owe us money from the sale of Modric. You can sell him for £200m but it doesn't mean anything if you don't get your hands on the money.

Funny thing about Modric is if you remember, they managed to isolate themselves as the only interested party and then (having agreed a 35 million fee) dropped their offer to 22 and basically told Modric and agent to pick away at the club until they could hopefully force a cheaper move. I have no doubt they were offered a slice of the difference/monies saved (speculation on my part I might add)...but it's the same thing all over again here. I hope that club implodes, they disgust me.

Re: Gareth Bale

I am still convinced Bale is not leaving. This is drumming a huge amount of interest and media time for THFC and the player, it wouldn't suprise me if Levy is sitting in his office rubbing his hands together in glee at this brick storm being created by the media. The player was talking about next season with Spurs last week in the media, if anything he is waiting for an improved deal, and we should give him one, he deserves it.

Bale will be a spurs on september the 3rd, that is my strong feeling.

Re: Gareth Bale

Whatever happens, the saddest and most sordid bit of this latest escalation has been the fact that Gareth Bale is no longer the Bale we all 'knew' in a wider sense.
His 'innocence' so-to-speak has been eroded over the summer by Zidane and those arseholes.
He is now firmly caught up in the money-spinning eye-popping world of superstar footballer might and power.
Whereas he once almost blushed when compared to the Ronaldos and Messis of this world, he now genuinely believes it is his heir and right.

It was inevitable I suppose. No lad stays a 'lad' when blessed with that talent and unremitting spotlight, but I cannot help feel sorry for the fact that his head has forever been turned and we will never quite see as happy or a chipper a Bale in our shirt again, even if he is made to stay one more season.

I suppose any human being would crack under that sort of pressure...

Re: Gareth Bale

Big statement. I don't expect they'll tail off so easily.

My prediction is City to win it by a margin, us to pip Chelsea to 2nd, and Arsenal and United to battle it out for 4th. Ironically (as it was always said about Arsenal), I think that battle will be determined by how fit RvP manages to stay.

Eh??

If history is anything to go by then United will slip this season. But by how much is the crux of the matter. Scholes is a massive loss to compound the loss of Fergie. How will the players react to Moyes?

Show us your medals some may say.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think Jose will walk it, us and Manchester fighting for second, goons a lock in fifth, throw a blanket over the rest of them, whoever finishes 6th will probably be closer to the bottom than the top.

Unless we sell Bale of course in which case we'll be down with Arsenal.

Re: Gareth Bale

i don't think anyone wishes for bale to go.
but if he does - he is entitled to as only a few get chosen to play at RM - then having him go at a record bid is much better than how we saw modric/berbatov left us.

What a pile of brick.
They're only a tabloid football club. You dont have to be any good to get signed by them.
This is the club that bought Thomas Gravesen, Julien Faubert and Royston Drenthe.
Remember when they bought Elvir Baljic for a ridiculous amount of money at the time and no one ever heard of him again.
The current squad has the likes Arbeloa and Pepe in it ffs.

So you think there's a chance he's off now?

Re: Gareth Bale

I don't follow RM that closely but don't they have to make a mega signing every season? If it ain't Bale then would Suarez satisfy their fans? Or is there another potential signing?

I personally don't think Gareth goes and I don't think he has changed much. He is already a multi-millionaire. Nobody turns down more money but what is he gonna do with it?

I am sure he is enjoying life at Spurs and with his mates and family.

I reckon City will win the league, and if Arsenal sign Suarez, we keep Bale and United sign Fabregas there will be a massive scrap between those three and Chelsea for 2nd to 4th.
I fear it could come down to a fight between us and Arse for 4th. If that is the case, not only do we need to keep Bale and for Soldado (if he's coming in) to get firing, but we need Suarez to take time to find his form.

Don't discount Liverpool completely - they looked pretty good without Suarez last season and if they buy a decent striker with the 40-50m they get for him, they're not going to be too far off 4th. Coutinho is a very classy player.

Re: Gareth Bale

think Suarez will head to Real, Bale will stay here and Arse will be left holding their dingdongs

Re: Gareth Bale

i'm only discounting City as it tales a very special manager to win the PL at the first attempt, i'm not sure MP is special enough

It's never just about the player, though, is it. You have to factor in his agent's greed, and he'll most likely be in his ear constantly, feeding him all sorts of brick. At the end of the day, I think the overriding factor, though, will be what Lewis and Levy perceive to be Bale's commercial value to the club taken as a whole, not what's bandied about in the media as having been "offered" by Madrid, and I don't think they are going to be able to afford what will be Levy's asking price.

Re: Gareth Bale

until there is a hard quote in the press I reckon its safe to assume nothing has happened, if Bale does want out he'd have his agent announcing his transfer request to the papers, if we have had an official bid we'd leak it in the hope that PSG would get involved, and RM would want their fans to know how serious they are and how much more than Barca paid for Neymar the offer is

footballers are really reluctant to ask for transfer requests - it is a last minute thing - as soon as you hand in a transfer request then you void allot of your existing contract and don't get a payout when you are sold. there is a section in the secret footballer about this - which is why you rarely see the players officially hand in transfer requests - they just get their agent to spout a load of crap in the press. I don't think we will hear much from Bale to be honest.
