Pretty surprised at this news, bit early for Benteke to commit to Villa without seeing what materialises but if we couldn't pay 25M I'm glad we have moved on quickly rather than taking it to the deadline only to end up with inevitable dossapojntmrnt
 
How would bent fare in our team now? I'd recon he'd score quite a bit, but as usuall his ability to not contribute anything else would be lambasted on here I recon.

As I said before, Baldini should have a list of strikers from South America and Central America, all with a few seasons of 20 goals, all available for £12m and decent wages.

He should have similar from all continents. Africa, Asia, hell even Europe. Czech league, some random Latvian. The Kazakhstan Scaramanga.

None of this £25m gubbins, just a proper left field mentalist.
 
It's interesting that so many of our fans think we need a big, strong, back to goal striker to play in a 4-3-3. We don't IF we are looking to play a 4-3-3 and not a 4-5-1. We need a forward who doesn't play with their back to goal, but one who has sharp movement, can run onto through balls and create something from nothing themselves. In my opinion a lot of Spurs fans may be disappointed this year because we may not even sign a striker if AVB feels like that Gareth Bale can play that "Messi" role.

I certainly think he could with the right players either side of him, but realistically I do think we will go for a forward but it will be more in the Eto'o mould than a Drogba. Either way we still need another wide forward, probably a left sided one if AVB is going to play the wide men inverted.

trying to stay positive but Im gutted......to all those who didn't want him enjoy the champers lol but we still need new strikers.......my brain is fuzzy to think of alternatives......not overly enthusiastic regarding soldado and considering the big money players still looking at strikers im wondering who we will get......if we do get some1.
 
We would have not been a joke but a laughing stock if we paid £25 mill for this novice.

I would have loved him for around £10 mill. If he repeats last year's form this term his value will increase. I personally think he will not repeat his form.

I suspect a season of regression toward mean will see his value at something more reasonable next summer.

If you were the finance director at Villa and you were asked to authorise a new contract for an asset valued at £25M, what do you think your response would be for a request of a £0 release fee if Villa are relegated?
