O/T Manager Sack Watch

The scary thing about Mancini getting sacked is that City might stop underachieving.

Possibly or more likely someone will come in with a totally different idea about what they want and make a ton of multi million pound signings that will need more time to bed in and add to all the egos that like to ruck with eachother. Pellegrini is obviously a decent manager but I don't think that appointing a manager that has zero command of English is a good idea, especially at a club full of all those personalities and expectations.

yep. plus pellegrini is the man who spent 200m in one summer with madrid and got sacked after winning fudgeall

we really need to pounce soon because its only a matter of time before city/chelsea find competent managers to fully exploit their riches

My money is on Laudrup going to either Chelsea or Emirates Marketing Project. He has that aura and was a big name player. Should not have troubles commanding respects from the handbags.

he speaks good english. There will be no problem from this point of view

I like Pellegrini. His teams play attractive football and he is a better man manager than Mancini

To be fair anyone who can get an average Villarreal team to a CL Semi and Malaga to a QF of a CL (within a minute of going to the semis) in there first season must be pretty damn good. I think Emirates Marketing Project MIGHT actually make it out the group stages for once.

glad we won't have to see David Fatts ugly mug in the dugout anymore although sadly this means city are guaranteed to be much better next season

if Jose does return to Chelsea that's the top 3 locked up already

Oh dear, proper manager on the way for Arab FC??
Another £200 million spent the right way this summer, then.

I can't see why this is would be controversial. When you look at the squad he has underachieved. They won despite him rather than because of him. He needed the miracle goal to win the title last season and wasn't at the races this season. It's ridiculous he failed to get out of the CL group stages twice, which was a problem he also had at Inter (who then won it without him). His success in Italy also had a lot of luck to it - Juventus being stripped of the title and relegated, a weak Milan team - so his achievements on paper look better than they are.

There is little to suggest he is a good manager in the sense of getting the best out of the players available. I also heard an interview that he was totally aloof from the players and extremely unpopular in the dressing room.

Roberto Mancini: Since Mancini joined Emirates Marketing Project in 2009, no team in the Premier League has made more substitutions than City (380)

I think he has done a decent job. It's not easy to create a team from a bunch of superstars and he won a couple of trophies.
Not a given that a new guy, however good, will do any better. Here's hoping, anyway!!

A club statement said he "had failed to achieve any of the club's stated targets this year, with the exception of qualification for next season's Champions League".

They didn't care to elaborate on this, then? Sounds like a reasonable paraphrase might be, "Didn't win the Prem and CL double, so he's out." They're as ridiculous as fudging Chelsea.

It's not just the fact that they failed, but how they failed. Pathetic in the CL and far adrift in the league.

I saw an interview with Graham Hunter on Sky two days ago which said despite the rumours, Pellegrini most definitely cannot speak English.

Rumours are that Rafa Benitez is in the running now. All starting to hot up as one of the oil encrusted vacancies comes onto the market.

I think 2 of those targets would have been...
1) Don't get knocked out at the CL group stage AGAIN with some terrible performances and
2) Try and put up a decent defence of the title.

Exactly. I think even losing the final against Wigan wouldn't have made any difference if they had put up a better showing in the league and champions league, he would probably still have had a job.

I was in Ireland a few years back when he was in charge of Real, they were playing a friendly against Shamrock, and I personally heard him give an interview in English
