what has happened to the transfer section?

I don't think Remy is any better than Defoe

Has looked better thus far, but it's hardly enough to base a definitive conclusion.

The fudging annoying thing is that you know he'll be one of the high earners at QPR. This half season move is genius, he'll get yet another bump in pay when he moves on in the summer.

He's also played on both wings so wouldn't be that bad a covering option either.

Remy for £8m is the sort of deal I'm expecting us to do in the summer. Perhaps signing Remy, Benteke and a CM for a total of somewhere around £30m and then selling Ade and Thudd (for say £15m combined) and releasing Gallas; maybe selling Dempsey as well. From a wages perspective it would be neutral at worst and net £15m outlay is where I expect. Wont be enough for some on here but probably realistic.

Would mean that we could go 4-3-3 with Bale and Townsend covering the LW spot, Benteke and Defoe the central one and Lennon and Remy the RW spot, with potential for those to move around. Gives us sufficient depth for us to be able to cope with European football, whether CL or EL

AVB would be an idiot to go to Real at this stage in his career.

Especially in the state that Mourinho leaves teams.

Remy is not to standard.. as a striker or as a RW!

Can that be said about Madrid.

Given how far they are behind Barca i would say yes.

It's not just that. He doesn't control ego's, he inflates them. It magnifies the issues Chelsea have had and AVB would meet with a similar fate at Madrid.

Mourinho will win trophies during his time at a club, but he'll be a short-termist. He has no reason not to be.

Given the choice i would not want Mourinho at spurs.

Interesting, I was under the impression that it was the Spanish egos in the squad and therefore the Spanish media making it hard for Mourinho. Casillas and Ramos being the main instigators.

if you let Mourinho take over the club and impose his image on it, back him in the transfer market and if the players all buy into him, he guarantees success

for me he is the only manager on Fergie's level

I don't think he's anywhere near Fergie's level. Fergie has consistently kept and remade a title winning side in the Premier League.

Mourinho has jumped from club to club, spent a fudgeload of money and walked off when the brick hits the fan.

Yet as Chelsea keep reminding everyone, they still win trophies!

Yes, as a club with infinite resources should.

However as such a club they should have won, or at least challenged, for far more.

Simply put, if they win the FA cup and finish fifth their season will be seen as a failure. Hell if they win the FA cup and finish fourth they still wouldn't be happy.

However if we were to finish fourth, the majority would be content with how the season has gone.

Different expectations.

After he's won a few trophies mind.

Mourinho takes over good sides, spend lavish amounts on a couple of world class players, wins trophies and leaves after 3 years with a mess left behind. Jaded, burnt out players and squads that needs massive rebuilding.

Yup, but what he has done is nowhere near as hard as what Fergie has done.

Taking top sides and adding finishing touches that will last for 2-3 years against building a team and sustaining it for 20 years.

It's not even a close contest in my book.

Yeah, Mourinho left Chelsea in a right state... Seriously? The core of players he left behind remained fixtures in their side that has been successful since he left. The meddling done by Abramovich since he sacked Mourinho can hardly be blamed on Mourinho.

Real have had an off season in the league this year for sure, but as a team he's leaving behind a very good Real side and a side that's been matching up to Barca on a regular basis whereas when he came to the club they were consistently second best and quite often played off the park by Barca.

You would have to be mad to claim that he left Porto in a bad state I think.

The only potential argument is over Inter I think, but they were already heading in the direction of aging players and short term goals. To blame Mourinho for just how poor Inter were under Benitez seems like a massive overreaction, I simply cannot think that a team would go from CL winners to that over 3 months just because of what the previous manager did.

Mourinho hasn't done what Ferguson has done, but similarly Ferguson hasn't tried to repeatedly take over teams that weren't performing and make them title winners within a couple of seasons working in different leagues with vastly different player types, teams and squads. Ferguson also hasn't had to work under the kind of pressure that Mourinho had to deliver short term success at Chelsea, Inter and Real in quite some time as his reputation at United has been set in stone.

Both are brilliant managers.

Good post (because I agree with it)

Porto is the exception.

I don't think that you can say Chelsea haven't massively underachieved since Mourinho left. As did Inter. As have Real Madrid this year.

I just don't rate him as a long term option for those reasons.

Added to the stain of hatred he leaves on the club with his win at any cost attitude.

What Fergie has done is amazing I agree, but then again could he have done what Mourinho has done in those different leagues?

Man Utd are no paupers either and have broken the British transfer record on numerous occasions. Is it harder to take the biggest and richest club in a country and keep it (mostly) at the top of the league or take some of the biggest and richest clubs in other countries and win stuff with them? Apples and oranges.
