Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

The Togo bus shooting was three years ago. Terrible thing to have happened. But it was three years ago. Great that Ade feels deep loyalty to the team mates who suffered that traumatic experience with him. But it was three years ago.

Of course Ade is a person first and a Spurs employee second. But it's the same for every player. They all have personal issues. Where would Spurs be if they allowed each of them to take time off to deal with these issues whenever they felt like it?

Only three years ago. That's not long at all.

Well they would be allowed time off dependant on what the personal issue was.

No, it's not long. I'm not suggesting that Ade or any of the players involved should have got over it.

What I am suggesting is that there was no immediate need, this week, to deal with any issues arising from that incident. It could and should be done on the players' time, in the off season. It shouldn't be done on Spurs' time, at a crucial stage of the season.

Are you someone who is involved in an extremely high profile and physical job. In which you see your bosses as inept and you have to look after the rest of your team instead.

A team who you have been through life and death situations with?

Without knowing what the personal issues he wanted to go and take care of it is impossible to know what he was dealing with.

He is a person first and an employee of spurs second. Which is how it should be.

He is a professional footballer he gets paid by us to play for us, he historically has an attitude problem, there is no reason on earth why he should not be available on Saturday, our club obviously are not aware of any problems, if for any fecking reason he is not at least on the bench on Sat he has acted unprofessionally yet again, I await Sat with bated breath.

Completely with you here. All the people here crying for Adebayor clearly haven't quite comprehended what it means to be paid over £100,000 PER WEEK to do a job. It means that you pull your fudging finger out and get on a plane when your employer is in desperate need of your services. If he isn't playing on Saturday then he gets fined a weeks wages IMO.

Whilst 'there is no reason on earth' is exaggerating quite a lot i agree he should be available on saturday.

Other players have been away at international matches this week, Dempsey went just as far from home to Honduras and will still be back in time. There's absolutely no excuse whatsoever for Ade not making it back. If something tragic like his team mates getting shot at had happened, then fine, but having to re-arrange a flight because some of the team were a bit precious and didn't want a stop-over is a ridiculous excuse.

I agree that he should be fined if he's not back in time to start this weekend.

you don't see the difference between going away for one game and going away for a whole tournament?

Of course there's a difference.

But there's also a difference between playing a game on a Sunday and not returning until the following Friday and playing a game on a Wednesday and not returning until Friday - especially since, with respect to the example used, Adebayor will have no potential issues with jet lag, unlike Dempsey.

of course, but the example was given - Dempsey can get back from Honduras so why can't Adebayor from South Africa.

which, with all due respect, is a rubbish comparison

fact is : there are no facts with regards to what's happening with Adebayor atm but people are passing judgment on him as though he has already not turned up for training tomorrow and/or missed the game. why don't we wait and see what happens before sharpening the pitchforks ?

Agreed that it's silly if anyone is slagging him off for not being available when the training session or match in question has not yet taken place.

But my issue isn't with what might or might not happen tomorrow or on Saturday.

My issue is with Ade not being back in training already. It's disrespectful to the club and especially to the fans who effectively pay his extortionate wages.

we don't know what the agreement is/was between the player and the Club on this issue - does seem unlikely that they'd have given him until Friday to return though i must admit, maybe he wasn't expected to return until after the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game but Defoe's injury has meant we had to get him back sooner? who knows ?

if he is being disruptive and not returning on purpose for no good reason then of course id be in favor of some form of punishment btw - just no point getting bent out of shape over something we know next to nothing about

I'm with you on this Jimmy. Whilst I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, the guy does have a history of causing problems like you said. He had a dig at AVB just before he left for the ACN.

Why do I get the feeling he won't be at training tomorrow? Or am I just being pessimistic?

you haven't done all season so i can't imagine you starting now :p

Why is it a bad comparison? There are 4-5 direct flights from Johannesburg to London every day, an option that isn't available from Honduras. All of Monday, all of Tuesday and all of Wednesday Ade could have come back. He could have been back on Monday night if he'd really wanted. I'm not unrealistic and expect him to pack up and leave immediately after they got knocked out, but the very least I'd expect would be for him to be on the phone to AVB on Monday to discuss his exact travel plans, then to report to training at the same time as our European players return after the international friendlies. There's no reason why he should have extra time off given the severity of the striker situation.

because Dempsey went away for a few days and all his flights would have been sorted out beforehand, plus it was a one game break, in and out minimum fuss.

Adebayor went to play in an international tournament so :
played more games
was a away for a lot longer
return journey wasn't arranged beforehand

but the very least I'd expect would be for him to be on the phone to AVB on Monday to discuss his exact travel plans, then to report to training at the same time as our European players return after the international friendlies.

who's to say that he hasn't spoken to someone at the Club? didn't Villa Boas say he knew what the situation was with Adebayor and that he's expected back in training tomorrow?

you might very well expect him back at the same time as our European Internationals but that doesn't mean Adebayor was told anything like that by the Club does it? :~

Who said anything about Ade on holiday?

Try reading what's written, fella.

I can read. Your implication was Ade had a couple of weeks away from his normal job (perhaps for an IT course) and he should breeze back to work.
In fact he had the hopes of an entire nation on his shoulder for a long period. He is the main man in Togo. He ain't the left back. Can you name the left back for Togo who is probably back at Gillingham or wherever?
We see Gazza today in rehab. I pray Ade does not have similar demons. Gazza never had anybody trying to shoot him dead.
