Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

I was a big fan of Ade last season. But this season he's flopped. We need him big-time v Toon. I'll wait to see if he plays and how he plays, before judging him, as the recent stories are too conflicting for me to judge what's happening.

Oh he's definitely been playing badly.

The club may want him back sooner, but they would more so want him back happy. We've not seen enough of that smile we saw last season.

Tbh, I think this all goes away if we win and he plays well/scores. But people will rightly be annoyed with him or the club or both if we don't win and he doesn't play well as a result of only having a day's training all week.

Earlier in the week I was worried by this situation. But the recent report on the reason for the delay and AVB's press conference comments have served to explain the situation satisfactorily.
I don't imagine that anyone clear-minded could object as things stand.
Should he not appear for training tomorrow then it becomes a different matter.

So far.

He has been injured and is just coming back into form. Like Defoe, I don't care much whether or not Ade scores as long as he is getting into scoring positions, the team plays well and scores which they have been doing while Ade has been playing. Comfortable wins with us scoring 3 or 4 goals.

As I said earlier, this is AVB's biggest test at the moment. If he can get Ade "up for it" and playing with a smile on his face then we will almost certainly get 4th at least. Number one priority at tne moment seeing as we didnt buy a new striker in jan.

Am I missing something? How many times have we won 3 or 4 nil when Ade has played at the same time?

Of course it's important that he does more than score, his overall play has to be good, but this is the Emile Heskey debate all over again. He doesn't score but he brings people into play blah blah blah. Bottom line, he's a striker, he's paid to score goals, he doesn't done it enough. And his assists total is also disappointing.

Dealt with appropriately?

Some of you make me laugh.

Pretty much every online paper i can get my hands on states that he was expected back in training on friday.

Is it friday yet? No.

People just can't wait to jump on a player who isn't playing well and will see fault where there is none yet to be found.

Edit: Even the article Denmark Spur posted up the page mentions it.

It might well be the case that Spurs now expect Ade back on Friday.

But I'd put money on Spurs having expected him back considerably earlier than that after Togo were knocked out of the ACN on Sunday night - especially given our dire need for a striker. It doesn't take four days to get back from SA. It doesn't even take 24 hours.

I want Ade to do well for Spurs. I hope he scores a hat trick on Saturday. But really, there's no excusing his continued absence from training. It's unprofessional and disrespectful. There's no disputing that.

Dude when the Manager says "we are trying to establish the best flight connections" - thats dodgy - how long does it establish flight connections? The guy isnt in the north pole, he is a few hours direct flight away. The game finished Monday so I would have expected him back by now and im sure AVB will have had the same mindset considering what he has said.

He says we are trying to bring him back for todays or tomorrows training session - so this whole friday thing is media malarky. AVB I think did expect him back for todays training session but saving face and trouble by saying today or tomorrow.

It strikes me as a bit vague thats all.

Even worse.............Sunday.

We've missed Adebayor and Sandro recently. I'm looking forward to seeing Ade and Dempsey start together. Hopefully on Saturday. I think Dempsey will be a goal machine with Ade as his foil.

I'm not sure. I think there's a difference between coming home after a tournament and coming home after an international mid-week break. A tournament is a bit more mentally draining, takes a bit more emotional investment, and therefore may take a little longer to mentally recover from. You're staying with your team-mates, you're forming a bond and you're competing together for something that everyone worked hard to even be there for. So I don't actually mind him taking a bit of extra time to unwind from all of that as long as he gets here for training tomorrow and plays on Saturday.

He clearly feels a lot of responsibility to the Togo guys and I wouldn't be surprised if whatever was going on with them was weighing on his mind in the first half of the season. I reckon that he needed to get out there, do whatever needed to be done there so his head can be clear before coming back with us. If we rush him back then we may just have the inferior version of Ade back in the team. If we take an understanding approach, it may like a bit like we are being weak with him but it may give him the mental boost he needs to perform better.

It's all mental with him. Could he have been back in London on Monday or Tuesday? Probably. But would he be in the right frame of mind to give his best? He has a responsibility to those Togo players and to bring him back gradually over the week probably allows him to calm down a bit, release whatever tension he had and and be more mentally prepared to integrate back in with us.

If he isn't here for training tomorrow, it's ridiculous and a different story. If he is though, and plays on Saturday, no harm done.

Players at the World Cup or Euros get an extra 2 weeks holiday before pre-season after a major competition yet you lot expect Ade to return and play/train within 4 days after the ACN.

I know most of here think it is some tinpot competition not worth bothering with but it still involves as much for the players as say the Euros. Think there needs to be some perspective. Yes we pay his wages etc but there is a bigger or non-spurs/different picture here.

I'll accept your version of events but only with one, crucial, amendment:

If he is though, and plays very well on Saturday, no harm done

Nothing less will be acceptable.

Not comparable.

Players take an extra couple of weeks off after summer tournaments because those tournaments are staged during the off season and because the players' participation in said tournaments would otherwise prevent them from having a proper and much needed rest from the game.

The ACN, however, takes place in the middle of the season. Players involved play no more games for their respective countries than they would have played for their respective clubs. Therefore, no need for an especially extended rest.

I can't wait to hear your rants if other players who have been training with us all this time don't play very well.

If other players fail to perform well, then at least it won't be because they decided to take a few extra days off training.

Of course summer tournaments are different but still they have been away from "home" for a couple of weeks and need to a acclimatise. Some players may have family or personal issues to attend to. I understand some players are human beings with different needs to others?
AVB says he will be selected if fit. No problemo absolutemente.

Away from home for a couple of weeks...........maybe it's just me but when I get home from being away for a couple of weeks, I don't need an extra week to be ready to get back into the swing of things.

We're not talking about a soldier returning from the front line in Afghanistan or anything. A day or two, at most, is all that anyone should need.

Are you someone who is involved in an extremely high profile and physical job. In which you see your bosses as inept and you have to look after the rest of your team instead.

A team who you have been through life and death situations with?

Without knowing what the personal issues he wanted to go and take care of it is impossible to know what he was dealing with.

He is a person first and an employee of spurs second. Which is how it should be.

So when you go on holiday you leave your family behind and work, do you?

Ade has not been on holiday.

The Togo bus shooting was three years ago. Terrible thing to have happened. But it was three years ago. Great that Ade feels deep loyalty to the team mates who suffered that traumatic experience with him. But it was three years ago.

Of course Ade is a person first and a Spurs employee second. But it's the same for every player. They all have personal issues. Where would Spurs be if they allowed each of them to take time off to deal with these issues whenever they felt like it?
