I KNEW you'd come up with some gonads like that! Hahaha! Absolute gold! Filled my "what's he's going to say" bingo bord in no time.

Of course it's not what you were talking about. Because it doesn't count when we do it. It only counts against Spurs when some other team finds one of 10 that works out, and we should obviously have signed that player.
No it counts when you buy the type of player I was discussing. How is a an 18 year Bergvall that? How is a 16 year old Vuskovic. I literally said I don't mind the speculative punts buts I like the idea of also signing players ready to go right now. We're the players you listed ready? No they weren't. There is a zone between developing players and established starter and that's the market we have not shopped in for years.

Ekitite would have been that player, Isak was that player, Daka would have been that player. So it's even about them being successful it's about their profiles. You seem to only know players in a very black or white manner.

Right now Balogun would be this kind of player whereas Lankshear was not. I'm taking about players who have a number of seasons of actually performing for whom there is a potential massive upside. The players you selected are of a different category. They are young players who have development time ahead of them. I'm talking about players ready to go.

Examples of players we have signed in the mould i'm talking about.

Modric - seen as a talent, but physicality uncertain.

Berbatov - again a alent, a good striker had multiple seasons scoring goals. Proven, but not rated as highly as he was later.

Ndombele - a mercurial talent that was considered a possible great but had some questionable history

Lamela - again seen as a talent but not one the big teams felt worth buying.

Vertoghen - a talent, but unproven at the top level.

Eriksen - rated but though to lack the bits to get to the very top of the game.

Do you now see the profile of player in talking about? It's not a question if whether they were successful or, I'm talking about the profile of requirement. If not, do you seriously think that Vuskovic was of the same profile and career status as Modric was when we bought both of them? Is Yang comparable in career achievements at the same time purchased as Son? If your answer is yes then I'm sorry you don't actually pay enough attention to football outside of the PL.

Again I'm not talking about the pints because I'm absolutely fine with them. We should be signing punts. It's a great market to be in, but there is also a market between punt and top level established like Tonali.

If we had Fernandes from Southampton then he would fit into that category but buying him a year later from West Ham for £85m then moves him out of the undervalued category.

the way i see it, the problem with spurs is that we've always had a quality-balance problem. somehow we end up with 4-5 very good players, and then surround them with very poor players. look at poch's spurs lots of talents everywhere and for cheap (and bale money); but as time went on we replaced with worse and worse and expect the young ones to pick up the slack, even before they've reached full potential.

brighton and brentford are basically showing that get the team quality-balance right and a few young buds will grow and even bloom. if we weren't so stingy with our transfer budgets we'd be in a very good position right now - look at Arsenal for steady squad building
The main problem at Spurs has always been that the target was never winning the PL or even winning trophies. The target was merely finishing 4th and qualifying for the CL. That meant that on the few occasions when we had a great team but lacked the squad to win things and needed to bring in a few new first team players so that current first teamers became squad players, we never took the leap because it looked likely we'd get into the top 4 anyway.

Contrast this to the Woolwich Wanderers recently. They went close and were guaranteed top 4 the following year but the owners carried on adding more and more quality in attempt to actually win the big trophies.

The good news is that we're now being run by different people. I think we've already seen that the ambitions have changed. We have upped the wage budget, paid big money for players, paid money for players early instead of haggling for a whole window, got rid of players that don't want to be here and/or the manager doesn't want and done so for amounts that perhaps aren't the peak of what we could've got for them but on the flip side haven't had them hanging around and polluting the atmosphere for the rest of the squad. I'm genuinely excited by where Spurs can get to now instead of being resigned to the fact that we'd just rest on our laurels if we ever got the top 4 as was the feeling I always had previously.

Balogun is 25 years old mate....

If you're talking about players 25 or under that we've signed who could come straight into the our first team and make a difference then we have signed bundles of them over the years....

I'm not convinced that the players you mentioned above have/had profiles any different to the likes of Van Der Ven, Romero, Udogie, Simmons, Odobert, Kinsky, Kulusevski, Bentancur or Porro.

I actually largely agree with you regarding the players you listed. I should have said earlier that it's something we hadn't done for some years but have been doing better with recently. However I don't believe the players that the other guy listed are of that ilk, they are more so speculative punts which again I actually support us doing. I think we should be shopping in all three zones of the market.

I think that is no surpise considering the lack of resources we put into player recruitment for a while under our old CEO. We know that we had a period where our recruitment structure went to brick. Was probably the most underinvested recruitment department in the premier league, with even many Championship clubs having data and scouting models that had higher investment that ours that was basically Steve Hitchen's salary plus a few part time scouts.
