Apologies, I forgot for a minute that we're Spurs. We need at least 5 more signings and no academy promotions to make sure we stay average.
I'm mostly on board with your 2-3 big signings train of thought but I don't think that needs to be mutually exclusive to also picking up free/cheap options to strengthen other areas too. I would approach the window working back from those big signings, earmark funds for them and then see what you can do with the remaining budget. Not signings for signings sake but if there are players out there who can make an improvement to the squad then I see no reason to not make these sorts of signings also
