Good to see, gym work is still a long way from grass.

Maddison has been on the grass for almost a month now IIRC, but still outside chance of seeing them this season

Would be a bonus to have them for last 5 games, hopefully we don't really need them for it.

They are completely different injuries, so i wouldn't see them as directly compatible with thing like that. Maddison has a new ligament grafted in that he'll need to build up and strengthen. Whereas Kulu seems to just need the fluid around his kneecap to stop swelling

We've also got to consider that Deki seems somewhat slow to find form after an injury and this has been a big one.
Even if he does make it back this season, I wouldn't expect much impact from him at all for a while.
By all accounts, patella injuries can be a real bitch to recover from and much more complicated that muscle or ligament injuries.

Any chance of either of them being back before season end Doc? We could really do with them for the run in.

Maddison could be any time from now (the minimum is 6 months, which his was last week). The latest he will be is beginning of May. Things have changed with ACLs and they are being left longer now - both Bentancur and Dragusin pushed near the 9 month end of the recovery window, whereas until a few years ago most were back almost dead on 6 months.

Kulu's kneecap fracture is a much less common injury. It should have been 3 months to heal, with swelling up-to 6 months. But we're obviously 50% over that already. So he could be imminent, or nowhere near - it just depends on the swelling.

I think Maddison is close, probably post March international break. Still think Kulu is further as he's seen no grass yet (part of strength yes, but also part of the fitness recovery). Would be huge boost if even one of them and Kudus was back after March break.

I love your naive optimism....

Maddison does seem closer. I think it will just depend how he gets on with training football full time and putting in a tackle. Obviously has come through the strength part the twisting and turning part and some basic football drills. But a tackle will be the next big one.

Tackles will be fine. His graft will be stronger than it was originally. Its reduced flexibility and agility he will be working against. Can he get that change of direction, that burst of pace back? That's the final couple of months of ACL recovery

I suppose it is good that Maddison wasn't a super explosive athletic marvel that relied on pace, explosiveness etc.
He does twist and turn quite a bit, but not like Doku etc.
Hopefully his brain, skill, eye for a pass, passing ability, awareness etc are all still there and able to keep him at the top level.
Mind you, he did score quite a few goals where he ghosted forwards apace and got into the box for a through ball.

Agree. Odobert it the one that's more concerning.

Maddison is nearly 30 now, so will be losing any of that natural spriteliness anyway. He's got enough about him intelligence wise to become that different type of player if he needs be. More of a maestro #10
