Conor Gallagher

I give up mate. Wasn’t expecting to have to defend an innocuous comment so much. No, maybe it is nothing new. But I’m glad that we have the muscle and flexibility that Villa don’t. And I think what is sort of new from this news is proof that even though Villa currently look like a much better footballing prospect than us, our weight actually still matters. It is nice to be reminded of that, and see it in action.

😂 fair enough

I've always wondered whether Gallagher can end up in the mould of a Jordan Henderson. I heard loads over the years that Hendo wasn't fit to lace the boots of prior Pool players. Then he captains the side to the CL and league titles and in my mind was the real England captain for many years. Gallagher could perhaps have a bigger impact at Spurs than it looks on paper.

A few years ago when he was at Palace I would have been overjoyed at this signing. But now, I’m not sure what Gallagher adds to our team. He has never struck me as a passing/playmaking midfielder rather a hardworking box to box. And I think we need more of the latter than the former. Haven’t watched him at Atletico so maybe his game has evolved. Happy to be proved wrong.

Sarr and Bentancur are quite good at that too, not sure there will be a big difference in our pressing.

As per our previous conversation about Bentancur I think Gallagher is more secure in possession and while not a deep playmaker for me quite capable of some decent pass and move play - while being more secure. So maybe Frank gets someone he trusts to be a bit more progressive, while (safety first) being a hard working athleticly strong player who will defend well.

Overall I think he's better than Sarr and Bentancur. But he still leaves our midfield with a lot of similar-ish profiles, missing a deep playmaker/ball progression player and passer.

Incremental improvement I guess, a limited one, but still.

Seems a really good pro with good experience and some leadership about him, I guess we need that.

Hopefully not the last significant money spent this window of completed.
Ah sorry exactly the point I was trying to make, only far less eloquently!

A little torn on this one, as I remember him he was a hard working, good tackling player with a will to win and no little skill.
All attributes we need and getting them in one player is a real bonus.
I just hope that Frank doesn't sit him too deep or block the development of gray and Bergvall with him.

He's only 25 but is already a seasoned player who knows what it takes to get to the top, which will be very welcome at Spurs. We do suffer from naivety sometimes, so it makes sense to bring in this character.

I was pleased when Cheatski were 'forced/chose' to offload him for financial reasons, as he was their captain and doing well for them.

Having said all that, I think he is a bit basic i.e. chases around all over the shop and is not the silky passer I want in the team, but it seems Frank is trying to build a midfield with bite.

He's a good fit for Frank's style of football.

That's not a compliment.
