**** OMT Tottenham Hotspur FC v Bodo Glimt ****

Think it's important after Ange that we become harder to beat and resilient, and the last few weeks have shown that's improving. Thought Odebert was our best player in the first half and generally did decently. They reminded me of Emery's Villareal that won the Europa, just very hard to get the ball off and all their players were constanly between the lines (the yellow shirts of course aided the impression). I'd like to see Gray start the next league match in a more advanced position ahead of Bergvall.

Frank didn't underestimate them. The facts are he recognises the requirement of rotation, but our squad just aren't good enough which some people find it really hard to comprehend fo some reason.

We have played two average at best CL teams and looked pretty poor in both. This squad is not ready to compete seriously in the CL which is fine - we just need to manage expectations....
I think he overestimated them. I really see no need for him to have set us up in a low block formation against limited opposition. Should've been a lot braver and had faith that we have much better players than them (as our respective wage bills show).

we never shoudl have bought Tel. he is not a striker or a winger. And for me him and odobert have shown Zero in this team. We cant get a tune out of either of them. id Rather play Udogie left wing than either of them right now.
I agree either of them have not showed much during their time here. Tel has had enough time and playing time to show that he has adapted and to show glimpses of what he can achieve. The bashing he is getting by some fans is warranted imo, he just needs to start showing some quality and the fans will back down. As for Odobert, he has been injured and didn't get enough chances to prove himself. Now that he gets playing time, Spurs fans including myself, are starting to question him and can soon turn on him if he doesn't improve. You look like you already did. He still has some matches before more do and Frank said he is training well that is why he is rewarded with time on the pitch. At this point I regret both their signings, but they are young and can turn it around. I hope they do.

Agree with that, the quote replied to was 'underestimated them by not playing first eleven'. He had to rotate, that's not underestimating them. We absolutely shouldn't be that conservative in terms of setup.....

I'd imagine that when everyone is fully fit and integrated you are probably looking at forward options along these lines:

CF:Solanke/Muani/Richarlison/Johnson
LWF: Simons/Muani/Richarlison
RWF: Kudus/Kulusevski/Johnson
AM: Kulusevski/Simons/Kudus

If Maddison makes an early recovery and we strengthen in January you've got even more to think about.

Think Odobert and Tel will be loaned out in Jan and will join the Bryan Gill graveyard of punts that didn't work out.

Was out after work at a restaurant yesterday, then followed the match forum here in teh last 30 mins on my train home...

Honestly speaking, what should the final score have been if all is fair in the world?
This is the correct score. What is it not fair about their player not being able to hit the target from the penalty spot? Finishing is a part of football last time I checked, and a pretty big part too. That goes for all of their missed opportunities. You can switch that to us too, what is unfair about VDV not having the presence of mind to not do a dumb foul when Bentancur goal was disallowed? It's all fair and the correct result.

The result is the result but by that analogy, every single game ever played has ended up the 'correct score' which we all know is not the case. In some games a team deserving more gets a lot less and vice versa.

I'd say that if you played a game 100 times with similar chances for both teams to those that occurred last night, then on a very large majority of those 100 games, the home team wins and IMO the home team wins by at least two clear goals in a pretty high number of the sample

We basically 'got away with it'.

Or Richalison getting the ball stuck under his feet from the Bergvall pass in the first half.

Agree about Tel, he looks like he would suit a system we don't play, and his qualities doesn't match our requirements - or our league. Some would say the same about Gil. Reminiscent, but not like Son at the end. Sure he can be trained, but you pay for attributes. You buy a quick player, not a slow player trying to make him quick - as an example. He will do well in another club.

Odobert, on the other hand, I have hopes for. He has a skillset that looks useful for the flank position, he's just not quite good enough at the moment. He's technical, he's reasonably quick, can pass a man and when he loses the Moura- and Lamela-esque ability to run himself into trouble, I think he will come good. He just needs to lift his head more.

Again, some would say the same about Gil.

Games are influenced by incorrect decision by the ref and even VAR sometimes so that would be the ONLY incorrect score. The rest is chit chat and places where you have to improve your game. You missed a sitter, you go train not to miss sitters again. You concede from corners that again is a failure, a hole in your game and holes get punished by players who have the ability to do so. The point of the game is to score more than your opponent and win. It's simple. Some try through possession, some try through counter-attack, there is no wrong or right. There is only more aesthetically pleasing or less. Why should a team that can pass the ball more and create chances but are weak at finishing and at the back be more entitled to win a game than a team that counters, is very disciplined defensively and is good at set pieces? They are not. If you fail to score more than your opponent you didn't deserve to win, simple.

I thought he was our best attacking player of all the starters last night. Actually tried to make something happen every time he got the ball, despite being largely isolated.
Agreed.

Think he looks a bit short on confidence still. Don't think he's back to the player he was before we signed him after an injury plagued first season here.

To me seems to almost always slow down when he receives the ball, needs to settle on the ball, then take on his man. But that also gives the defender time to settle and get his positioning right making it more difficult to get past.

I wonder if a more confident Odobert would be more dynamic, taking the ball in his stride, running at players directly without slowing down first.

More an observation and wondering what you think about it. I may be completely wrong on this. I agree that he was our best starting attacking player and he keeps trying. Just doesn't seem to be the right flow and rhythm for him.

What I think we can take from this game and the game against Wolves is that we can back from behind. That is not a trait we had recently so it's a nice change to see. It gives you confidence that you can do so in the future when you do it back to back.

I would give Bodö Brennan, Tel, Odobert in exchange for Jens Petter Hauge ;)
He's good when he's on, but he's frustrating as hell when he's not. Then he's like Brennan Johnson, but without goals or assists. This spring he basically went 15+ games were he did the square root of feck all! He only has 2 modes; brilliant or useless, and the periods where he's the latter are far too often.

Right now, the one I'd buy from Glimt, is Fredrik Bjørkan, the left back. Would be a great rotation option for Udogie.

Bodo were in a mid season/end of season break when the last games rolled round and were missing 3 or 4 first teamers iirc - chalk and cheese.

I was very worried about our games last season, not just because of our form going in to them, but because of everything I'd seen and read about them as a team - last night showed why.
I remember watching them on our home leg thinking how poor they were.
