*** OMT UCL Tottenham Hotspur vs Villarreal ***

4 changes should do it. Palhinha in for Bergvall or Sarr. Udogie for Spence, Johnson for Kudus, Kulo Muani for Richy.

Yeah, I'd agree with those, perhaps Odobert for Xavi as well. And so suddenly you're without 4 or 5 of our best players this season.

Nothing disastrous, just partly why I'm tempering my expectations for Brighton.

I'd obviously love to go there and win comfortably, but I don't see it -- especially as a number of our key players have played close to 180 minutes this week. I thought we needed earlier subs last night. I'd expect a bit more rotation vs Brighton, which could lead to another disjointed performance.
Would be both surprised and impressed with a comfortable win. Was more thinking more cohesive and some improvements in our attacking play.

he is, but he takes so many needless risks

needs to take better care of the ball

turnovers kill you in football

He is one of our key playmakers, and I think sometimes he gets a little frustrated and feels that he needs to push a little harder for the unlock-pass. I think Pahlinha's introduction helped settle the game back down at a time when it felt things were getting a little too loose.

Hoping for an improvement in performance levels against Brighton. I think this team and Frank are very much capable of that.

Early days, inconsistency isn't a surprise.

I think we've been very consistent. Defensively we are tighter and more risk-averse, when Pahlinha plays (Bournemouth excepted) we appear to be at our most solid, and our attacking play has been very hit and miss. That's no surprise - it will take those players some time to find their collective groove- and as long as we persist in not playing with a left-footed left back, I think we will find it that much harder to create clear chances on a regular basis.

I was very happy with the win as we all should be. A CL win. It's a good thing!

Can see him repeatedly pointing where he wants players to move when he has the ball.

Hopefully what he wants others to do matches what Frank wants and over time we'll see improvements on that.

I have more of an issue with others not taking responsibility, or not being good enough to take responsibility than with one of our best players (and our captain) taking and shouldering that responsibility.

Would be interesting to know what Frank wants him to do in those phases. Keep trying the difficult stuff or just keep it simple, play it long or safe and focus on staying tight defensively.

I think Sarr needs to be rested. I didn’t think we saw same energy levels from him than we had been seeing. Bergvall is needed if he’s fit as he carries the ball forwards. We don’t have another central midfielder that can do that as well as he does.

Rarely makes a mistake, are you joking? He played a hospital pass into Tel against West Ham that led to a big chance for them. And don't get me started on all his errors last season. Back end of last season and start of this season he's been better, but that's a ridiculous statement.....
I think we ask too much of him in passing terms. Due to that lack of deeper passing quality Romero is often trying passes that are a bit too ambitious. If can improve the quality of the ball progression in the centre I'd hope we see fewer high risk passes from Romero.

I agree, and a lot of the time I don't mind him taking the risk. Sometimes it's just plain stupid though. He's going to make more mistakes because of the way he plays, but that doesn't change the fact they are mistakes. And thats just the passing alone before we analyse the defending.

All in all he's been really good since the back end of last season - I just hope he's not slipping into his old habits....

What is key from yesterday is the subs we made
When have been able and to bring on players of that calibre before…
Not for some time
And that is the kind of depth that allows Frank to tweak and change game to game
Some of it won’t work but on here for it being tried

Must admit I was critical of the squad depth last season, but we had a good window and much better depth now.

You even forget Solanke, Kulu and Madders are completely out of the equation at the moment. Of course a couple of them are loans but either we keep them on or make some new signings in the summer. If our younger guys continue to progress then the squad really is looking in good shape....

As I said on the train on the way home
That team today and Saturday started with players who score less than 30 goals for us
That’s a huge shift Change

If not playing a left-footed left back has a big impact on our ability to create chances then we have a lot of issues to sort.

Read somewhere that Sarr was our top scorer in the team on Saturday with 7 goals. Really underlines the changes in the forward area.
Its a shocking stat, but does make sense when you consider it must have just been the starting 11 and all of Richarlson, Johnson, Solanke, Maddison and Kulu were out of the starting line up for various reasons.

Yeah, it's more highlighting that the whole front three was practically new and even the midfield wouldn't have that many games for us between them.

Definitely agree. People expecting us to be fluid going forward already are living in a dream world. If we still look as clunky by Christmas then they might have a genuine argument, impossible to know right now though.
