YepI don't care. We won in the champions league. We were the better team aswell.
Yep
But it was brick to watch
We played worse than some games we lost, so yeahBetter than watching us play bad and lose. So step up from last season.
If not playing a left-footed left back has a big impact on our ability to create chances then we have a lot of issues to sort.
Don't really see the prob with the doubling up on Kudus. It's happened a number of times but he's always well supported by Porro and/or Bergvall and plenty of good crosses have gone in from that area.I think we have several with regards to creating. Currently we are fairly easy to 'screen to the right'/push inside from the left and then double-up on Kudus and stifle the play. Bergvall is helpful as he is a direct, line-breaking runner always looking to make things happen, and Pape's been good in that regard too, but I think an Udogie gives us the option of going outside and creating that extra pocket of space in the channels for Xavi, etc. Or just the ability to hit the byline and put over a great cross. BTW, I think Spence has been brilliant this season so would be happy to see him in rotation on both sides...the major point is we are working out some very new combinations and personnel AND still managing to win. That's very encouraging.

It's still early days and the attacking players are still getting to know each other and Frank getting to know them too. We've plenty of options on how to set up to be creative, can't remember us having so many options and different ways to change it from the bench. Also, we still have Madders and Kulu to come back in for more creativity.
We played worse than some games we lost, so yeah
But who cares
Cup football
I felt pride in that Chelsea defeat that i didn’t feel yesterdayANY football.... there has not been a single game I can remember in which we lost - irrespective of how good we played - that I felt better than any crap game where we won.

I've listened to a couple of podcasts on YouTube today and although there's a recognition a win is a win and the performance wasn't great. I don't think enough credit has been given to the opposition. There are quality side from one of the best leagues in Europe just because they don't get 60,000 people every week or have star players we are quick to label this as an easy win. The Champions League is a massive step up, they were well organised well drilled and had some good tactics. The Champions League is another level compared to the 17th that we finish last year and any team from Germany Spain and France will give us a good test. It was far from pretty but last night, was a fabulous result.
Have they got a good record?100%. If you see their record in european games it's not shabby at all. They're a very good side, and have caused a lot of problems for the bigger teams in Spain these past few years. No mugs.
I think we're getting there. Just need a few adjustments. Wish we could clone Kudus and stick one on the left. It would be interesting to see either Tel or Odobert start a few games out there (and yes, I know a few of you don't rate them at all).
Also, no match will ever be perfect. The game yesterday was boring and offensively we offered very little - but we were solid at the back, and nicked a win. 3 points. Our offensive game will get better.
Different strokes for different folks.... all I can say is that the true winners in the football world never feel pride in losing; however good they play.
Losing is for losers but I guess we have never been able to embrace that concept....
Have they got a good record?
We won, that’s what matters but they had never beaten an English side
They also sold their best player
I think at the pace we played at a good side could have done some damage
I’ll counter that with saying if we thought we were playing a better side we may also have upped our game
For me it showed the power of the premier league. Their team has several ex players from this league
It is fair to say, Villarreal do not have the best record when it comes to facing English sides.
Out of 23 meetings to date in European football with English sides, they have won six of those meetings - and, crucially, only one of those wins has come in England.
That was just over 20 years ago as they faced Everton in the qualifiers for the 2005/06 Champions League.
AgreedUdogie definately needs to come back in. Spence is doing really well but if Xavi is cutting in off the left (which he is) we need someone that can not only go outside but hit an early ball where the option is there rather than checking back. All a bit too slow down the left from an attacking perspective.
