Keep hearing this success path being about consistently finish high up the league - well we had that with Poch, won naff all and then the squad went on a massive comedown. And now we just binned off a coach who proved he could win a trophy for a guy who to be polite, hasn't.

The real recipe for success is buying real quality players (and and much as I love him Solanke isn't that) - consistently buying young players with potential is not that and until we do that this path to 'success' people go on about is not going to be achieved and why no matter what type of manager we bring in nothing ever changes here other than the manager....
Can you offer up a 'success path'?

What do people think of Marco Silva? I remember thinking he was a bit out of order when he left Watford for Everton after only being there for a few months but he seems to be really popular with the Fulham fans

Yeah it is a weird one with him. I felt exactly the same as you. Maybe Everton and Watford were just brick clubs who could never be straight with the manager and give him clear direction (quite possible)....and Fulham might just be a more settled environment for him to work in? As I always thought he was a bit spiky?

I think this is why we like Frank.

Ange was an A+ in the area of motivation/emotional intelligence.

I think we like that (and so we should in the modern game), so would be high on the list of our requirements, Frank looks like he has that. Whether they're as good as Ange, I don't know? But certainly way above a Mourinho or Conte type.

The other part I agree with...I think Frank scores well in the tactics/coaching/cleverness areas. He has PL experience, so we won't be waiting for him to 'settle in' to the league.

Obviously a step up for him but I think he has the personality for it. Speaks well, and says it like it is.

Agreed!

Of course each manager will bring qualities. No manager has all of them ticked. For example, we will miss Ange's speeches, motitivation, ability to understand and connect with players.

But we were so lacking in tactical shape, I feel like Ange probably appreciates being canned. His PSG, Emirates Marketing Project-like approach worked in lower leagues. He was able to dominate. With us, against quality sides who are extremely well prepared to exploit weaknesses, we were a sitting duck. And there was too much missing from Postecoglou's setup when you analysed it. Credit to Ange he did pivot and did alter the way he plays to get us over the line in the cup. And he brought all that experience and a winning mentality. But lets be candid it was against a shockingly zhit united, all credit to Ange he did get us over the line and we'll be forever grateful. Saviour. Hero. All round decent man with good morals, and belief in playing attractive football. If I wore a hat I'd always take it off to him!

The thing that the 'lamenters' don't seem to get, is that next season, when things don't pick up and Ange is caught compromised again, half playing his highly attacking football which teams exploit and leave us too exposed, and too knackered, and results don't miraculously turn around, then what? We sack him 10 games in? That is no way to run a club. Ironically there's a few who are Levy-out who espouse this crazy approach. It would be shambolic to not give a new manager a pre-season, and to spend X million on transfers for another coach who is on borrowed time. There was too much to fix in Ange's system simple as. He didn't even have a system in the end, and adopted a low block. Yet even then you could see weaknesses and we were not as good as other teams in playing this way.

If fans step back and see this detail, then we really had no choice to act. Be brave. And now rebuild and give a new manager ample time to build.

Brentford will miss Thomas's speeches, motivation, ability to understand and connect with players.

See where I'm going with this?

Could we perhaps have best of both worlds with the switch? Get greater tactical acumen and coaching installed as well.

Frank does have a lot of this ability too I believe. Different to Ange of course, but I think there would be some consistency in being able to connect with players on their level.

Whenever i've seen him, he's come across really well. Excellent communicator. People say that the football isn't great. It couldn't be worse than ours last season.
He's played different ways (from season to season) depending what he finds himself up against.

He even was changing the way Brentford were playing this (last?) season according to reports (the Gary Linekar interview for example).

They used to hit it long towards Toney when they first came up because they were a Championship team trying to stay in the PL and they had a really good striker who could win headers. They don't play anything like that now.

The fact that he can change his tactics quickly and get the team playing them well is good.
Won't be a project. Taking 3 years and a squad overhaul to get the team playing the managers way.
