I think this is why we like Frank.
Ange was an A+ in the area of motivation/emotional intelligence.
I think we like that (and so we should in the modern game), so would be high on the list of our requirements, Frank looks like he has that. Whether they're as good as Ange, I don't know? But certainly way above a Mourinho or Conte type.
The other part I agree with...I think Frank scores well in the tactics/coaching/cleverness areas. He has PL experience, so we won't be waiting for him to 'settle in' to the league.
Obviously a step up for him but I think he has the personality for it. Speaks well, and says it like it is.
Agreed!
Of course each manager will bring qualities. No manager has all of them ticked. For example, we will miss Ange's speeches, motitivation, ability to understand and connect with players.
But we were so lacking in tactical shape, I feel like Ange probably appreciates being canned. His PSG, Emirates Marketing Project-like approach worked in lower leagues. He was able to dominate. With us, against quality sides who are extremely well prepared to exploit weaknesses, we were a sitting duck. And there was too much missing from Postecoglou's setup when you analysed it. Credit to Ange he did pivot and did alter the way he plays to get us over the line in the cup. And he brought all that experience and a winning mentality. But lets be candid it was against a shockingly zhit united, all credit to Ange he did get us over the line and we'll be forever grateful. Saviour. Hero. All round decent man with good morals, and belief in playing attractive football. If I wore a hat I'd always take it off to him!
The thing that the 'lamenters' don't seem to get, is that next season, when things don't pick up and Ange is caught compromised again, half playing his highly attacking football which teams exploit and leave us too exposed, and too knackered, and results don't miraculously turn around, then what? We sack him 10 games in? That is no way to run a club. Ironically there's a few who are Levy-out who espouse this crazy approach. It would be shambolic to not give a new manager a pre-season, and to spend X million on transfers for another coach who is on borrowed time. There was too much to fix in Ange's system simple as. He didn't even have a system in the end, and adopted a low block. Yet even then you could see weaknesses and we were not as good as other teams in playing this way.
If fans step back and see this detail, then we really had no choice to act. Be brave. And now rebuild and give a new manager ample time to build.
