Falcao, Llorente and Huiguain have proven themselves among the top strikers in europe. Do you think Leandro, and up and coming Brazilian is of the same proven quality?

and adebayor hasn't proven himself? think of the clubs he's played at.. arsenal, real madrid, spurs.. he's premier league proven, so personally i'd take him over leandro and llorente (as a starter) and maybe even falcao..

if we could get two of those strikers mentioned, i would be ecstatic, but the most likely outcome is adebayor plus one young(ish) backup.. and i'd be happy with that.

Even if one would cost four times more than the other?

Of course not, that would be silly. Depends on what you mean by 4 times, we allegedly agreed a deal for £5m for Adebayor, would I be happy if we paid £20m for Leandro? Hell yeah, because of his age and perceived potential, in my opinion anyway

No, of course not, to say otherwise would be silly. But then I do not see Falcao, Llorente or Huiguain as realistic targets for us. To me this is common sense, not sure what is issue is mate

Im not talking about them being realistic targets, Im talking about how Leandro is put in the same bracket as these players by many posters on this board. Like he is already that good/established or even like they know him well enough to say.

I find it amusing - as was my original point.

upon re-reading, indeed i did, i apologise.. i agree with your notion that the likes of adebayor should be preferred over someone like leandro, who would be a big gamble, imo.

I am ready for the gamble based on what I have seen of both Adebayor and Leandro

No worries mate, was all set to be talking at odds otherwise!

Id take Adebayor over Leandro, personally. Others may not. Its just something of an oddity how some online hype can get a practically unknown player into the same bracket as some of the best in spain

Surely thats why you get both - no?

Someone who will take time to adapt i.e. Leandro and one who can hit the ground running i.e. Ade.

We can say the same about Moutinho - would you rather have him or someone in who is competent but not brilliant but has 'proven; it in the premiership

On Leandro perhaps put it another way: he has the potential to be rightly regarded as one of the top strikers in Europe. It is going to be very difficult for us to compete for the very top players (sadly) so trying to identify players with significant potential is an important way of mitigating this problem. Of course it is hugely difficult and you have to take risks, but with the right environment and patience he could establish himself as a true top-line player. If we did buy him then bringing in Ade would be crucial, an established proven goalscorer who would help dissipate some of the pressure which Leandro would be under almost immediately.

And my point is that I think a number of people like me are influenced by his potential as opposed to what he has achieved in Europe. The moment a "Leandro" becomes a top European striker is the moment he falls out of reach. We need to sign such a player while he is showing his potential. And I am not just talking about South American players.

Im sure Leandro could turn out to be the dogs dangies, but there is (IMO) a huge difference between "Potential" and "Reality".

The reality is Higuain and co ARE top strikers in Europe and Leandro could be (potential - not "is")

Seems to me some forget this in their excitement

And on that I completely agree with you, and was trying to project that from a slightly different perspective. But as a general point it is very true that many players, or targets are hyped up when the likely truth is many fans have never, or hardly, seen them player. I wonder if the country they are from, or the name they have, has something to do with unrealistic expectations from the outset. For instance many of the players we have been linked with I have hardly seen play before, certainly not live and definitely not enough to make any assessment of how good they may be (hence I try to avoid commenting on them in any significant way).
