Yves Bissouma

My worry with Bissouma is that if you factor in his whole stay at the club we have seen more of the bad side of him than the positives over the course of his stay.

I don't think anyone could argue that he wasn't purring at the start of the season, looking strong when needed but also holding the guile / skill to hold the ball in positions under pressure. FWIW he does seem like a great character too.

It'd be interesting to watch a compilation of his involvements today, I wouldn't say it was a disastrous game but he was not at his best. I'm not sure what he needs to get there consistently, hopefully Ange does. The trio of him, Sarr and Maddison looks ideal but it didn't quite click today + throwing in the current form of Bentancur doesn't seem like it'd improve much either...

Will need to see it again but think VdV was as much at fault for it if not more so. Got attracted to the ball and left the goalscorer.
My view from the Telly coverage was that Biss was not looking around at all, which allowed Gomes a free stroll and unpressured shot.

There were two who followed into the box. The wolves player who had the ball was covered (by Royal was it), so there is only one way they could get anything out of that, and that is to square it back. The wolves player had no one else in support, so it's tinkle poor that everyone retreated all the way back into the 6 yard box! Absolutely no need for that! That's not were the danger is!

Biss gave it away a bit sloppily but then did well to get back BUT then fatally ball watched.
Royal, once he could see VDV would be covering the middle (and you can see he looked early on) should have made a beeline for Neto. Neto is the present danger and probably the most dangerous player on the pitch...get out there and take a yellow if you have to.

Bissouma should have just hauled back the Wolves player and taken the yellow for second goal, top players and top teams know how to take the yellow and when.

Don't know what's happened to him, he's stopped taking on his man in midfield to make space/take a player out of the game, which was an important part of how we played at the start of the season.

should have made the foul as soon as he gave it away on the edge of their box

He didn't have the opportunity....his control was loose and the player it fell to almost dispatched his first time pass immediately.

He probably would have got a red card knowing us and then be without him again for 3 games

This is a key for sure. He forgot that Cheat Mode has the middle covered regardless! However, he managed to prevent Neto from getting a shot on goal, he forced him to pass, at which point had Bissouma been focussed, that shot doesn't happen because he's been tracked. It was a poor, poor giveaway to start with. He had a couple of moments yesterday, I remember what should've been a simply header back to Romero on the halfway line become this weird 'flick header attempt' into the middle which gave Wolves a breakaway. He was one of many issues yesterday in terms of lack lustre performance IMO...

Poor, real poor and I like him.

Indicative of what I see as alot of our current problem, no one working hard enough at the moment

I think with Biss it is a psychological thing. The same glitch which caused that weird header in the first-half that gave Wolves a breakway, the same one which saw him make those weird errors which led to boking and reds before, it's a focus thing I think???? Is he a top 6 player? Probably? Is he a top 4 player? Perhaps. Is he a top 3, 2, 1 player? No. IMO.

The bottom line is I get teams will counter attack, (heck we perfected the art form ourselves) but that's usually in the form of a breakaway where the defending team struggles to keep up with you and the attackers outnumber them. We did the hard bit, got 5 players back to nullify their 3...and failed.

Bang. On. For all ther kvetching I've seen about Royal's role, you're absolutely right, there were several back who failed; I personally cannot look beyond Bissouma both for the initial cause and the lack of focus ball-watching when the scorer is virtually next to him.
