You really are funny somedays

- We took Southampton's manager, gave him a squad capable of getting to Cup finals including the CL, capable of challenging for the PL title at least twice and raising his profile to the point where his next job was PSG to go work with Messi, Mbappe & Naymar. And on top of that paid him out a fudge ton when we fired him.
- The guy is constantly flirting with us, has dinner with our players regularly and never has much bad to say about us

But you think he feels hard done by and bears a grudge ...
He absolutely should feel hard done by and bear a grudge. He took a 6th placed team and achieved a 5th place and then 4 top 4 finishes in a row while having the 17th biggest transfer budget in the division. He massively overachieved and was then sacked less than a third of the way into a season when he'd barely got to use the few new players he had finally been allowed to buy. If I sacked one of my traders after a bad quarter after 4 great years of results then I'd expect them to tell me where to go if I tried to employ them again (or I'd at least expect them to want a far higher level of compensation second time round).

I've gone off him and want him out the door but I'd argue that Conte has gone right for the club. Got us back top 4 and has us there again. Results-wise, he's been a success of sorts.
If there's one thing he has done right is that he probably had a hand in forcing the club into buying some quality players (and the fact he was our manager may have also made it easier to attract these players). We still need a couple of CBs and to find a successor for Hugo, but the next manager that will come in will have a decent squad to work with. So you can chalk that down to the positives coming out of his reign.

Yeah, if he goes now or if he gets top 4 and goes, I'll remember him well and as a positive for our club. However, if he sticks around and the circus around him continues with us losing out on top 4, I'd have a different view.

5th or 6th is a par finish…. As long as we don’t end up 7th or worse then he’d still be in credit overall for last year.

And that's a fair point of view. My issue with it would be that we're in the driving seat for 4th at this point. If we don't get it and the circus continues, there will always be a suspicion that Conte sticking around cost us. I guess this is where I expect Levy to take the initiative. I don't think we're getting top 4 with Conte - pull the trigger.

If he don't get 4th from here you have to ask questions IMO.

Thats a real cut and shut view though that does not account for other teams that I imagine you consider within those top 4 places dropping like bombs, so you have to take it as it comes. Conte ability does not not extend to Chelsea being utter crap and Liverpool having a poor season, so you could argue that with two teams out the race (within reason) that it would be a failure not to take advantage IMO. Adding to that an Arsenal who we have finished above for how many of the last seasons since 2015/16 being top and likely winners of the league.

4th was par for Pochettino and Conte so far. However that is just them surpassing realistic expectations.

If we go by wages for the squad then yes 5th/6th is where we should expect. We are basically the same as arsenal.

Arsenal are doing fantastic this season. Previous years not so much though.

Indeed. Arsenal have benefitted from giving their manager time and also backing him with significant transfer funds and lots of autonomy with decisions to get rid of players. I think Artrta was on his way to an 8th place PL finish at the point where Conte is now with us.

But we were well ahead of arsenal in terms of development 9 months ago

Were we? We were well behind them in the league. Only the last few games we overtook them.
We had a better squad, more money, better signings and CL football. But we just blew all our advantages (while they have admittedly fluked things so far)

Guardian article about 8 leading names for the Conte replacement. Hadn't really thought about Luis Enrique. Why is he polling so poorly above? I get the (in my opinion misplaced) love-in for the ex, Poch, but Enrique has the most pedigree out of that list. Is he promised elsewhere? psychotic? Need a war chest bigger than a Sovereign Wealth Fund?

For me because he only seems to do 2 year contracts at clubs.

Has he ever developed a side?

Has he done anything as a manager other than at Barcelona?
