The transfer window thread.

His best performances are unreal but he seems to only reach that level every few games. Think back to his ruining City's title celebrations last year as an example or that pass against us at Wembley last season to assist the winner. I'm not sure whether he's inconsisten or just a bit lazy.

I am sure he is massively over rated.

He’s got tons of ability, he just doesn’t know how to execute it. Think of someone like Lundstram at Sheff Utd. He’s getting the absolute maximum out of his ability and influencing games - but you wouldn’t say he has more ability than Pogba. In Italy he got away with it but there’s no gaps in the PL.

Would be a big wage hit for someone that would be on the bench a fair bit. I think Jose/Levy would like to use those wages elsewhere for now.

True but perhaps Amazon could help with Zlatan’s wages, as he’d be sure to make their documentary entertaining viewing.

Plus he is the 10th most popular athlete on the planet, with a larger social media following than our entire squad put together...

And his popularity Stateside would help increase Tottenham’s American fan base in an instant, even if he’s only a bit part player for us.

I'm guessing Mourinho is well on board with the policy of denying all transfer activity until something is confirmed. He doesn't do it the same way as Pochettino, but expecting honesty on that topic is like expecting him to give us the line-up two days in advance.

I think players like Zlatan and Bale make a lot more sense now than under Pochettino. But the obstacle of wages and finances still makes it unlikely.

I know Stop! Hammer time but i have never seen anything in Pogba to suggest he is worth the type of money Utd threw at him.

Jose made a comment in one of his recent interviews that to me was a direct poke at Pogba. It was something along the lines of if a player is great, but doesn't help the players around him, help them be better, then they are not worth it.

As usual I think the media don't have a fudging clue who we are going to buy.

Personally I think Fernandes is the only given, probably a RB as well (and I'm sure Levy/Jose already have their list)

The only piece that makes me believe we could see a surprise in January is this whole Amazon brick (the club will use this PR moment), we already have a great script, early season struggle, loved manager failing being replaced by most high profile manager in the world, hopefully going on a good run. Does the club want to add a high profile January signing to that script? (maybe just me being a cynic)

Could be actually. Plus I still don't think top 4 is gone by any means, only 9 behind Chelsea with 2 games against them still to come. A little boost in January, especially when they still cannot invest and when they have an incredibly young inexperienced manager and squad (albeit one that annoyingly seems to have a lot of talents) may be just what we need to close the gap.

Zlatan is now a free agent, so could be in place ready to help show our players how to do it at the Allianz Arena...

Plus he could “prank” the Bayern player who did this stunt in USA back in September, to help build up our global brand...

Fernandes has signed a new contract with an £85m release clause, nice to see someone staying for a bit but his stock will never be so high if he wants a big move and salary. I do wonder if he's an Alfonso Alves type player who storms a weaker league but doesn't have the technique to excel at the top.

I’ve watched him a bit for Portugal (against decent oppo). He’s got this knack of being involved in almost all of the potential goal
Incidents - either with a direct run, pass or shot. He seems to have an instinct to be in the right place to influence the attacks - I think that’s the sort of thing you can carry forward with you the higher you go.

As much as I like BF, I can’t help thinking that Ziyech at half the price would be perfect for the right side of our 3 behind Kane. He has that creativity that we sometimes lack from that side and would compliment Serge nicely by playing inverted.

TBF tho, we have Lamela and GLC waiting for a pop in that position so I really don’t see us using money there.

At the right price a quality player is always a good shot, but he probably just pushed himself into the price range of a player to fill an immediate positional need. Which to your point, not 100% sure that is us anymore.

In additional if we had come close to personal terms in summer and the conversation was still open, he would have tinkled Levy off. More likely he was a Poch target, we sent a message with Jose that we are not longer pursuing, he took the option to get a pay raise now.
