Not that it would have mattered as they would have scored some other way, but there was a blatant foul on a Spurs player in midfield not again,that led to the counter

I thought Aurier actually played pretty well overall. For the penalty he recovered really well and then was a little unlucky that as he went to clear it Mane put his leg in the way, I thought even then Aurier tried to stop his follow through. It was a penalty but not intentional foul from Aurier.

Was that because Liverpool didn't press us so aggressively though. Once they got their noses ahead I felt they sat back more. As was reflected in Klopp's subs.

The entire back 5 were decent. Sanchez and Toby played well I thought as was Gazza. It was the midfield that let us down- again!

Glad you mentioned the foul before the breakaway as it was egregious and I was furious it wasn’t given at the time.

Not sure what any defender can do there
Someone suggested getting his body in the way which he kinda did but Mane won that penalty again

There was definitely an element of that. But our ball retention was so poor for 75 minutes. They picked up every second ball. At one stage, Winks and I think Rose were 2 on 1 v Salah in a race for the ball and yet Salah came away with it. Once we went behind, we looked to play and I think our change of attitude was as much, if not more, of a factor in us putting them under pressure in the last 15 mins than Liverpool dropping off.

I've seen poor teams cut through Liverpool this season (Norwich, Sheff Utd and RB Salzburg). We could have had more joy going forward if we'd set up differently. Of that, I have no doubt but we'd have also been more open and susceptible to their firepower. That's why I don't really have a problem with how Poch set us up. I think he was wrong, and there is some hindsight at play there to be fair, but I can at least understand what he was doing because when I saw the line up, I thought he'd lost his mind.

The threat comes from wide so Sissoko needed to help Aurier down the right, Son helping Rose down the left. Eriksen and Winks central with Dele dropping back to make a central 3 when defending. Gave them far too much time and space to play their passes and hit crosses from 25 yards out. This slight tweak and Eriksen and Alli putting in a better shift would have got us a result today IMO.

I think he’s getting ruined as a player by being continually asked to do a deep role. 2/3rds of the time he can do it as he’s a quality player but in games like today it just doesn’t work.

The irony being that he’s exactly what we missed up higher today. Some composure in dangerous areas and late runs into the box.

Well its been 2 seasons without new signings playing... apart from Ndombele who has played now and again this season.
Its not good enough by the Directors of the club or the manager [sorry coach]for not buying players and playing them or is it just unfortunate circumstances with the players being injured???

Sessegnon! has he ever played EPL games? If so he should be out there...bloody hell Pele played in the World cup final at sixteen. If they have the skill play them! for Gods sake.
Apart from that were still too sexy.
There is simply not enough belief in this club coming from the players. Sure they try.. but as far as I can see they still lack that passion and belief in themselves!
Someone at this club needs to take two or three steps back at this club to look at what needs to be put right...

Poch talks a lot about mentality. Yet the right mentality was what was missing for me. After taking the lead, you knew we'd have an inferior team mentality. Sit back too much, and don't take the game to them enough. Fair enough away from home to pool, get compact. But when those openings come, have the confidence and determination to hold the ball. To play our game. To impose our game. That was missing for me.

We should be able to play our way, regardless of the scoreline.

He didn't give away a pen. Its not his fault! It's he that should have been awarded the free kick. Aurier is in control of the ball, and is about to kick it. Mane throws his leg in front of Serge, and prevents him from kicking the ball. It's just hilarious that VAR doesn't overturn that. But serge is at no fault for that. He won the duel with Mane. What more can he do.

When Saudi Sportswashing Machine signed him from Leeds (I believe we were looking at him back then but didn't follow through and make an offer). When Villa signed him from Saudi Sportswashing Machine and when Liverpool took him on a free from Emirates Marketing Project (although to be fair I think they did pay him a wage way in advance of our highest paid player).

If you don't think that Milner has been a very good player over the years then that merely confirms how little you actually know about football I'd say.
 
So I think going forward from here, let's get Winks out of the team for N'Dombele (one has an impact on the game and the other doesn't) and get Eriksen out of the team for Lamela or Lo Celso. Personally I'd rather Vertonghen over Alderweireld as well (although I don't think Toby did anything wrong today).
