Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Maybe Eriksen feels he needs a break from Spurs? After all he's been here longer...playing devil's advocate, but can't you see how the only difference is that one is the manager whilst the other is 'just' a player?

I don't think either necessarily deserve criticism, but when one takes actions, complains etc about players needing to show full commitment to THFC, then it's a bit rich to say openly TWICE that he himself would have left if certain conditions happened.

i can't see why anyone can't see the problem with the hypocrisy here. Vilify the both for their comments or don't villify either...

I agree, I don't thi k we can criticise either for leaving under those circumstances.
We've always known eriksens position, I actually admire him for it, he hasn't got sucked into the "this is my club" bollards some do before they high tail it to greener pastures.
I think he's handled it very badly for himself, but that's another topic.
And as I said if we had won the CL and poch had left then once I'd sobered up, got over hang over and realised he was gone I would have been sad but would have understood.

I think there is a subtle difference in that one (Poch) was a vague comment of possibilities after the event whereas the other (Eriksen) was an all out come-and-get-me plea to RM.
Not that I have any issue with what Eriksen did. Everyone knew of his vision of a career trajectory and if anything it made things very clear once and for all where we stood, whereas previously there was the will-he-won’t-he over a new contract.
So different, but I concur Poch’s comments are not always helpful.
I’d like to see a slightly more circumspect Poch as part of project 2.0. Our media team need to guide him in this.

In fairness to eriksen, he's never wavered from wanting to leave (only where he's willing to go), it was our hopes he would sign, never anything else.

Weren't the poch leaving if he won the CL quotes said in a "how could i ever top that?" way rather than genuinely going to leave if we won?

I thought they were nonsense at the time but according to various journos (they cant all be making it up) the players at Tottenham expected Poch to go in the summer.

That is the starting point of the problems in the dressing room. We have a group of players that expected to have new manager, a new way of training, different tactics, maybe a more relaxed atmosphere.

That why I think players delayed with their contracts to see who was coming in.

Toby has spoken out today how it’s a nice escape to be away on international duty.

Some reprieve.
I think Poch has a brief reprieve. If he was going to go, he would have by now.

The players are not back until Wednesday next week (I would imagine), which means he'll have three days with them to start getting things back to where they should be.

Perhaps going away with their national sides, experiencing a different group dynamic, manager, training etc will have helped. A change being as good as a rest...

Then we have Watford (19thOct), who are currently terrible, Red Star Belgrade(22nd) and then Liverpool away (27th).

I think, as it stands, Liverpool is the key game.

We should beat Watford and RSB, no guarantees of course, but we should. We could take those games and show how we are working on the training ground to bring the team together in a successful way. And then Liverpool will be the test of that.

And I dont even think the Liverpool result is the key thing, its the performance, how well we match up. But I do think - if we pull another Brighton type performance - that Liverpool will absolutely smash us, and Im not sure Poch survives that.

We then have a week off, Sunday to Sunday, and the fixtures following are Everton (A), RSB (A), Sheff Utd (H), West Ham (A), Olympiakos (H), Bournemouth (H) taking us to the end of November.

December is a tricky one, Man U (A), Burnley (H), Bayern (A), Wolves (A), Chelsea (H), Brighton (H - Boxing Day), Norwich (A).

It looks two ways to me, and it all hinges on Liverpool.

1) Poch gets to work, the squad responds, we do well against Watford and RSB, and put in a good showing against Liverpool. The run following that is ideal for building momentum on that good work the three games prior. It could be the making of our season and the resurrection of Poch and the team.

2) Poch gets to work, the squad doesnt respond. We limp past Watford and RSB (or worse) and Liverpool utterly outclass us. Poch goes. New manager has a pretty decent run to come into the club and try to build the team back up with...

Absolutely this and yet Spurs fans have taken that as meaning Poch wanted to leave! He is not a native English speaker so while he has the vocab, he does not necessarily pick up the nuances of expressing yourself in another language.

This type of ‘Pochettinoism’ is one of a few around that time that did little to settle the squads jitters!
These types of uttering show his lack of experience and awareness of the effect of his comments.

I agree with you here. He isn’t obliged to at all. The fact he is using them might show that there were also some incomings that didn’t get done due to not getting rid of those players?

The fact he is using them, for me, shows he isnt on his game.

Especially when there are committed players who can very ably replace them.

I think to when Poch started, he had no issues in binning off experienced players, big name players - leaders in the group ...

No issue at all. And he didnt have the like of Alli and Sanchez on the bench waiting to come in when he did.

So are you saying that IF a player wants more money ( wages) then the buying club is willing to pay that Levy should make it up for him???? If i have that wrong i am sorry but if that is what you are suggesting then (imo) that is silly at best.
I ink it depends. In this instance we are about to receive £13 million for a player that is on the decline, the manager no longer wants, is taking up £60k a week of wages, using a non homegrown player spot and there isn’t another club interested in him at anything like that price. If Wanyama agrees to,the move his salary will reduce as Belgian clubs operate a fraction of PL clubs wage bills.

Is it so silly to give Wanyama a £3 million pay off so that he isn’t out of pocket on the contract? The club then still net £10 million and free up an overseas player slot, while saving the same £3 million on Wanyama’s salary. Is it really worth £13 million to us to have Wanyama hobble around for the last 10 minutes of odd game this season?

I understand what you are saying but once we go down the route it could lead to other players trying to do the same, for me if any player wants to go then they go and if they refuse to take the money on offer to them from another club that is their decision. We should not help them.

I understand your point of view but as i said i trust Levy to do the right thing and IF that means not becoming a charity i fully support it.
I think a dedicated DoF would do the right thing here - i.e. lose the player for 25% less overall income on the deal as they know that the player is no longer good enough for our level and the amount next summer would be 50% less (as well as having to pay the player that 25% in wages anyway).

It’s not about being a charity. It’s about doing the best thing for the squad. All that is likely to happen now is we keep Wanyama, pay him £60k a week, he barely plays and goes for a lower transfer fee anyway in Jan or next summer.

Well we will have to agree to disagree because ( imo) that is not a thing we should be getting involved with. The truth is that it seems nobody wanted Rose or Toby at the money being talked about and as for Wanyama as some said before maybe he did not want to go and play in Belgium.

It doesnt mean becoming a charity.

It means keeping a player the manager doesnt want, paying him all season, and losing out over all financially.

Now, I trust Levy, I support him a lot more than many on here who like to blame him for everything, but sometimes it is completely fair to raise an eyebrow and wonder what he is playing at.

And this is one of those. He basically shot himself in the foot*.

*If it was actually Wanyamas wage demands that scuppered the deal. Who knows, maybe he didnt fancy Belgium?
It was wages.... he was happy to go for the right package.

Maybe, maybe not but at this present time we do not have a DOF so its irrelevant. Should we have one? to be honest i am not bothered one way or the other.
