You would surprised how much this happens, the selling club makes up the wages to match what he is on until what would have been the end of his contract with the sellers, it’s ridiculous but footballers live on a different planet in certain aspects.

Not saying it has never happened but ( imo) we are not a charity and we should not be dragged into being one.

Completely agree but these player are living and working in a environment where it’s considered completely normal and they will wrongly see Levy as the bad guy for not doing it, players that do this it shows you exactly where their motivations lie.

Without a doubt, none of us really know what bids came in ( or not) for certain players in the summer. More then likely the players who were up for moving could not attract the level of teams that we are at, not surprised really as Rose has been poor for a couple of seasons and Toby looks like he is over the hill as well.

I do which is what I said in my post. But he obviously didn't back Poch with the players he wanted or clear out some deadwood and for that Levy is culpable for the current situation.

If the manager wants rid, then backing him might include some financial cost.

Same when the manager wants a new player, or wants a new contract for a player.

There is also the completely valid point Finney of the cost of not selling.

We apparently agreed a deal for Wanyama at about £13m. And reportedly it collapsed on wage demands.

Should we, A) Sell at £10m, to compensate for that wage issue and make the deal happen, and please the manager, or
B) Refuse to sell, spend a year on wages (£60k a week?) and likely sell the following summer for pennies...

Or the players should stop asking for more then the buying club thinks he is worth, Rose has always overvalued himself ( imo) and Wanyama is doing the same ( alledgely). I have complete faith in Levy to make the deal or not and as i said earlier we are not a charity.

As always, the players hold the aces.

If we want him to go, then we need to make it agreeable for him to move. Its not up to him to take a pay cut if he doesnt want to.

If we want to back our manager, why not make the deal happen? We would still be profiting, albeit slightly less, on the deal. Compared to the likelihood of us now getting even less than that when he does eventually go.

I understand your point of view but as i said i trust Levy to do the right thing and IF that means not becoming a charity i fully support it.

It doesnt mean becoming a charity.

It means keeping a player the manager doesnt want, paying him all season, and losing out over all financially.

Now, I trust Levy, I support him a lot more than many on here who like to blame him for everything, but sometimes it is completely fair to raise an eyebrow and wonder what he is playing at.

And this is one of those. He basically shot himself in the foot*.



*If it was actually Wanyamas wage demands that scuppered the deal. Who knows, maybe he didnt fancy Belgium?

Who knows we as fans are kept in the dark as to what really goes on behind the scenes, so many of us have opinions that are usually no more then guess work most of the time. Passes the time though :)

Wanyama collapsed on his side delaying the move and they wanted to move quickly due to The CL

Players we want rid of are because their not performing so how can they expect a pay rise? Don’t forget their generally entitled to a pay off go go if they haven’t put in a transfer request

Similarly to shift players you need a buyer. Look at Jansen. Who could have seen a player from this league going to Mexico??

I think we have done well shifting dead wood of late but it’s nor easy as we do pay better than most and London and the EPL is popular

Actually the Guillem Balague Podcast @nayimfromthehalfwayline posted above is a very fair listen. It does seem more his opinion looking from outside but with some knowledge of how Pochettino likes to operate tactically.

Good listen imo, and some interesting bits on Pep seeking advice on "if/when players stop listening" from SAF and Rafa Benitez..

I think our inability to shift players is over stated, to be honest.

As you mention Jansen, I mean - fudging great work to pull that one off! Likewise NKoudou.

If I had to guess Id say Wanyama had second thoughts about Belgium, its bascially semi retirement (though, sadly, probably about his level).
