I have several worries with the team at the moment. My Major one is that we seem to have lost our identity. We no longer Press, we play a formation that does not suit the squad we have. But also the young players we had that put in a lot of work and effort are now in their mid 20's and dont seem to play like they used to. I wonder if the change of formation is because sees this issue with the players and is trying to adjust. Or whether his system is just unsettling the players.

I would like to see this:

-------------------------------------Lloris---------------------------------------

Aurier------------Toby----------------------------Jan---------------Rose

----------------------------Dier-------------N'Dombele--------------------

--------Moura------------------Dele-----------------------------Son------

------------------------------------Kane----------------------------------------

I dont believe Eriksen is playing well. And I think Poch sees that too. We need more attacking threat. With this team Sone and Moura and Dele will go forward. sissoko is just another
defensive cog. Ndombele is box to box. Aurier deserves more games. He has played well against Palace and Leicester. I think Dele needs to get back to his old position.

Eriksen was very good against palace (as was everyone) providing those little touches and passes that make the difference.

He was off form against olympiakos but so was nearly everyone else. Ndombele was particularly horrific that day whilst Sanchez was at right back again and others in the side had just come back from injury.

Aside from that his only involvement is coming on late on in our last two games, where he was underwhelming and missed his third pen in a row.

My view is we need him and its certainly needs must at the moment.

This should be a very winnable game, if Poch fields players suited to the task.

I have a favourite formation I have fronted several times. Which never has been used to my knowledge, either because Poch or me are too stupid. Anyway:

------------ Lloris -----------
Aurier - Toby - ^ - Vert - Rose
-- Sissoko -- Dier -- Ndomb --
----- Moura ---------- Son -----
----------- Kane --------------

Son and Moura are quite undisiciplined wide drifters, which with wide backs Rose and KWP/Aurier leaves large open spaces for break through the wide center (in lack of a better word for that area), especially with CMs who covers poorly during these phases. That often leads to hurrying back into posistion which later is interpreted as individual poor positioning, but is really a result of unbalanced coverage of areas. That has caught us several times, and was a huge problem with useless overrated feckers like Bentaleb who arrogantly and regularly misplaced tinkle easy passes when the whole cohort was moving forward and had to use 2-3 seconds to switch directions (the opposition of course already facing the right direction). In a three man midfield with Dier dropping deep if the wingbacks are on a mission, we could reduce the vulnerability on those wide center breakthrough counter attacks. We can switch from a 3-4-5 man defence depending on the gameplay, without the defenders running around looking for a man to cover. Southampton may not be great, but they are mobile. In addition, Dier (of old) and Sissoko are probably our best break stoppers, and Sissoko 2.0 at least has a probability to do something useful after that.

I would swap Moura for Eriksen if he should suddenly decide that he loves us and wants to grow old and die here.

If Eriksen can stop sulking then he plays. Back to what we've done best over the first 4 years under Poch and get some rhythm and more importantly results, team for Saturday:

----------------------------Lloris----------------------
Aurier--Alderweireld--Vertonghen--Rose
-----------------------------Dier-------------------------
-----------------Eriksen----------Ndombele-------
---------------------------Lamela---------------------
--------------------------------------Dele----------------
----------------------------Kane-----------------------
Subs:
Gazzaniga, Davies, Sanchez, Sissoko, Winks, Moura, Son.

Dier to protect the back 4, Aurier and Rose to push on when they can, Eriksen and Ndombele to provide the passes to the front 3 to do the business.

I have never seen us lose at the lane ... I'm fearing the worst for this game ... we are either going to get done on the counter or we will pound them ...
0-0 it is then...

how many matches does your unbeaten run take in?

2-3-2-3 wow
I’m personally delighted to see someone finally starting to modify the WM formation - I’ve been waiting around a century for that.

Jest aside, the formation he’s put would be fairly accurate in attack, it’s just we tend to set up most formations to represent either the kick off or defensive formation!

Our biggest problem is a midfield diamond - we’re crap playing that way.

We have 6 good options for the roles behind a Kane though and 4231 has been the formation which has delivered Poch’s success at Spurs. We need to play that way, week in week out

Poch's interviews are good but it strikes me that the problems he cites are self made.

He talks about the lack of a press for example, but surely that is instructional from him and a by product of the formation.

4231 please

we know our best back 4 and they were all rested, I expect Aurier toby jan Rose

kane Son NDom

so need to decide on CM partner for NDombele - although it would usually be my preference to have a passer against a team like Southampton given our weakness seems to be keeping clean sheets rather than scoring id be tempted to play Dier, which may free up NDom as it will be clear that there will almost always be cover for him to make attacking moves.

Number 10 is one from Alli Eriksen and Lamela. Lots of reasons not to pick any of them, but the reasons pro are: Alli to play himself back into form, Eriksen for the familiarity he being to the team and Lamela is the more on form of the 3. I’d lean towards Eriksen, he’s still our resource and we need to do what’s best for us until January. If we don’t play him here then we need to write him off completely, using him as a sub just doesn’t help anyone.
I’d still like to see Moura and Son giving us two pace options, it didn’t work last time out though, think Lamela will get the nod here. It won’t happen but I’d like to see Moura introduced earlier against a tiring back four until he convinces Poch he can start.

See a few willing to leave out Lamela and Sissoko. I'll be amazed if both don't start, particularly Sissoko - Poch knows he can rely on these 2 for 100% commitment.

He probably wants to play Winks, Sissoko, and Ndom but I think this is a game to go with your best 4231 and a performance similar to Palace.

I'll take Sissoko and Winks in midfield, Ndom first sub.

Kane up top with 3 AMs behind. Son, Lamela and one of Dele, Moura, Eriksen.

No Sonny, and no pace!?

You do worry about this game given it was against Southampton that the last manager we took off them also last his last game to before getting fired....the mood music then was similarly downbeat...:(

Who knows what the bleep will happen here...it seems anyone who 'has a go' against us is guaranteed to score - and like Leicester this will be a team who'll certainly be up for it given it's also their cup final..

The omens say that the ex Southampton manager will lose and then be sacked straight after
My wife’s last game at WHL with me was a miserable 3-1 defeat to Southampton many years ago. Listening in the car en route home, Glenn Hoddle was sacked shortly after the final whistle. We were stuck in traffic and got home at 1am. brick day.

I’ve got a ticket in the south stand for tomorrow - leaving the wife at home though, the absolute fudging Jonah. :D
