I'm hoping for a bit more attacking intent today and much less sideways and backwards possession for the sake of it.
When the opposition has 11 players defending, it's always gonna be a lot of sideways passing. And you need to switch the play from side to side to create openings. The key part is the speed of the passing. To be effective, it must be conducted with great pace on the ball. Otherwise it's easy for the opposition.

Along with switching play quickly you need the ability to see gaps and play passes between lines and have players with good touch and quick of feet and thought. We have some players who fit this criteria and some not so much.

I think the likes or NDombele are the other option - the run at the opposition and move them around. Such a shame he is out today.

Today is the day id like to see Kane shooting for 25 yards again - he is lethal, but has stopped doing it

This match has the potential to be frustrating as Saudi Sportswashing Machine will most likely play 11 behind the ball.

Wingers getting to the touch line help massively to solve this problem.

But “modern football”.

Width helps, it doesn't have to come from an old school winger.

Very rarely now do teams play with focused wide men tasked with turning the oppositions back line 180 degrees and creating from there.
Not so much to do with ‘width’, but the task of getting in behind a defence and the attacking angles this opens up when a defender is being turned and consequently is unable to see and track attacking creative movement behind him.
