Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Electricians on the Spurs stadium site are earning £400 a day as the job approaches its opening deadline.

The Enquirer understands around 500 mechanical and electrical workers are currently on the site.

One industry source said: “They are paying big money at Spurs because everyone knows the job is working to a deadline.


“They are piling people in there and paying top dollar which is having a knock-on effect on other sites around London which are struggling to fill vacancies.”

The current hourly pay rate for a skilled electrician in London working under the JIB agreement is just over £20 an hour or £160 for an average day.

Mace is the main contractor on the £850m Spurs stadium job with Imtech one of the main M&E specialists.


More than 2,500 workers are on the site where construction continues around the clock to get the stadium finished for the new football season.

Spurs are planning to hold the first stadium test events in August and their initial Premier League fixtures away from home with the new 62,000-seater ground ready for September matches.
 
Im an electrican, last round of texts i got from the agency there was for half that so id be surprised if it has jumped up that much

Their still not in a great financial position after the rest of their group went tits up
 
Final layers of the turf being put on now. Apparently there will be a layer above the green layer you can see which gives the turf surface the natural feel

Turf is usually short for Astroturf is it not? also, why would real grass need another layer to give it a natural feel? I clearly wasn't thinking the real grass was being laid :)

Has there been an announcement as to whether we’re using AstroTurf or FieldTurf (seem to be the major brands used in NFL along with UBU) for the gridiron field?

Although (from my bit of googling) it looks like the only thing added to the artificial turf to make it better to play on is billions of rubber pellets plus a few tonnes of sand...

It ("turf" as a word on its own) usually means grass over here, as far as I'm aware e.g. if re-doing a lawn, you can grow it from seed or buy it ready-grown in the form of turfs (individual slabs of fresh grass).

What's the saying about being divided by the same language? :) (usually aimed at our American cousins)

I hate those things. My house is full of a million of those tiny pellets. I shed hundreds of them every time I get home from playing 6-a-side. They are made from shredded car tyres. They are supposed to be carcinogenic, but then again so is burnt toast

Where I play, they have shoe brushes at the edge of the turf, and it's mandatory to use them before leaving the turf. It serves many purposes; It prevents you from bringing all those pellets to your house/car/whatever, it keeps the pellets close to the turf, so it's easily collected and reused again. Free tip you can give the owner of the pitch. It helps massively!

Wonder if we'll go with cork rather than recycled rubber for that reason?

There are turfs that don't require rubber pellets, and instead use a shock absorbing layer underneath. Judging by all the layers they have rolled out, I think that's what they have opted for.

Mine mostly get stuck in my socks and knee/ankle supports! My wife hates them
