Jan Vertonghen

Tonight, I was going to buy home shirt with his name on it. Then I realised I’d lost my season ticket. After that fiasco, and having to go to ticket office, I ended up not buying the shirt. I’ll order it tomorrow. I love the man. Hero. so classy on the ball. Such a good defender too.

Honestly the guy has stepped up and brought into Poch. I used to question his commitment and rush of blood decisions ... but seeing him doing a dembele gliding past players was a bloody joy ... never in doubt.

Absolute beast lastnight. Owned Lukaku yet again, he must really hate playing against Jan.

(Yes, i'm turning a cheeky blind eye to that 'one' slip against Everton, which was kinda unlucky.)

There must be some tweets / funnies doing the rounds of a "Lukaku in my pocket" gif

I actually think opponents make a mistake when they have their target men going for Vertonghen's side. Lukaku often drifted right when they booted it long, seemingly looking to get duels with Vertonghen over Sanchez.

Not sure if opponents identify Vertonghen as weaker physically than Sanchez, Dier and Alderweireld. Even if that's the case Vertonghen just keeps making good decisions on when to challenge, when to just try to contain and when to drop off. Unlike Smalling and Jones who kept making the wrong decisions against Kane in those situations.

His positioning has improved a lot this season. He used to get caught the wrong side a lot and then pull players back but I cannot remember the last time that he did this.
