Interesting to note almost all nations have been voted atleast once except for Sweden. I think Sweden too have produced many great players over the years but have never performed as a team in major tournaments. IIRC, they have been playing in major tournaments almost regularly since the 1930s.

They haven't produced enough great players at the same time. They have 1 or 2 high profile players and the others are in lesser leagues around Europe. In comparison to Holland who, at this tournament for example, have 2 top scorers in their squad and the majority of the same team that got to the World Cup Final 2yrs ago yet couldn't win a game this time.

And, 1988 aside, this is the case throughout. 88 they have Rijkaard, Gullit and Van Basten. During the time when Ajax won 3 European Cups in a row, the national team didn't win the World Cup despite being in the final twice but the attitude towards the first one (vs West Germany) is that they played better and it doesn't matter that they lost.. right. 2nd one (in and vs Argentina) some of the players didn't want to be part of it. The previous four and next two they failed to qualify for the WC or European Championships.

One of the big problems is the ego or in-fighting. At the last world cup Van Persie had a go at Sneijder for not passing to him enough, at the 96 Euros there was a split between Ajax and PSV players, over club salaries it seems (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/feb/27/holland-euro-96-racism-england).

Sweden probably should have won something back when Gunnar Nordahl was playing, he has a deadly record and was very highly rated at the likes of AC Milan. There was also Gunnar Gren in that team, Egon Jonsson, Agne Simonsson.

It's a shame that when they had there chance, they were ripped apart by a young Pele and Brazil.

I reckon it's the Germans or the Spanish...!

Haha. All those players you know so much about.

Serbia's back four : Kolarov-Vidic-Subotic-Ivanovic
Probably the best defence in the world

And they haven't qualified for the last 3 Euro's.

Such a shame the rest of there team is lacking. If they were still with Montenegro the team could potentially be:

-----------------Brkic---------------
Ivanovic---Subotic---Vidic---Kolarov
-------Kuzmanovic--Stankovic-------
Llajic----------Jovetic-----------Krasic
--------------Vucinic---------------

or an ex-yu team :p

--------------Pletikosa----------
Ivanovic---Subotic---Vidic---Kolarov
Srna---Vukojevic--Modric--Kranjcar/Krasic/Perisic
------Dzeko---Mandzukic----------

that team could easily win the euro if they played up to their potentials

Semi finals at least, I still think Spain and Germany would be better though.

I can't believe so many people have voted for England. We are habitually ranked around 6-10 in the world, which means reaching the quarter finals is par for the course. The fact that we reach the quarters each time and are then knocked out shows that we achieve exactly what we should achieve. We are average, and have not under achieved by any stretch. I voted for the Dutch, because they have had some superb players/teams over the years, and really should have more than then 88' Euros to show for it.

You can have fantastic 11 players, but if they dont feel a sense of security, national pride and give it their all you ll never win anything...that was the case of yugoslavia

Yugoslavia had always been big bottlers. And it has nothing to do with internal or racial problems, atleast not until the fall of Communism. They were once known as "Brazil of Europe" due to their attractive game style. But they never showed their true potential in any tournaments. They had a very strong team during the 1990 World Cup and totally outclassed Argentina in the quarter finals but just couldn't score and went out in the penalties. I think that was the closest they came to show what they can do. It is a shame they didn't play as a team after that. The fact, they were kicked out from Euro1992 and their replacement, Denmark, went all the way to win it shows you how good they must have been then.

Everything you say is true, but trust me,there was always internal stuff going on in the background that prevented either the very best players to be picked just because they didnt support the regime or they were not in certain clubs (yugoslavia had it's top 4 also back in the day)...
