Transfer thread

My expectations are completely different to my wants.😅 I know we aren't signing an Isak from Saudi Sportswashing Machine or even Ramus from Atalanta for 72m (good thing). I've said loads of times I'm happy enough signing the young, the undervalued and the underappreciated players. You use that market wisely (as we have at times) and you can slowly build the quality of your team.

So I'm fine with all of that but that isn't going to blind me through realities of what we do have. The attack going into 24/25 was meh for me and it will be even more so this season if we don't add some quality to it because yes it is lacking quality by any standard.

I'd be equally happy spending 60m on Kudus as I would spending 30m-40m on Kubo or less on someone whom I don't even know. I'm all about attributes and not name recognition. You have the right qualities I don't care what league you came from or what team you played for.
Hojlund was the right profile too
It was a move too early into a batbrick club

I like Johnson more than you do, but the fact we have gone from prime Kane and Son to Johnson being our top scorer says it all about where our attack is at....

Honestly this is one summer where I'm not that arsed about signings and can see why the club are going slowly. Poch was great for us because he coached the players and Frank is supposed to be in the same vein. I think the squad is talented, not to challenge the top 3 just yet, but can mix it with those below. The youngsters need game time and Frank needs to get a tune out of the tools he has. He might not have elite talent but he has a huge amount of options in terms of differing styles. If we can buy someone who is clearly gonna improve the first team then okay, I don't think Kudus is that guy. I'm thinking more like a Rafa VdV type guy.

they've hired populous and have already engaged local authorities for expansion permission - will take time but its serious money for wrexham just to hire populous so they are serious

our competitive edge from the bigger stadium revenues only lasts as long as the next stadium expansion

That's great for them! But seeing as they're investing in a 5k stand that has yet to be built, you can see a full blown 52k stadium is some years away, to say the least. Also, we have arguably the best friggin stadium in the world, so I dont see how that is making them show more ambition than us. I think we need oil owners to see the spending other top teams are doing.

Its is the point if you want to use it to cry about what others are doing and you feel we are not. But in the context of Spurs and who we are its really not the point I was making and I should know because it was my point.

I can't be doing a summer of the whole middle aged men screaming into the ether about signings, its boring and twitters full of it, hence my earlier point.
It's your own fault....I thought you were putting the summer guardrails up? :)

You literally said gets the players Frank wants so it is the point - he would absolutely love to work with the players our rivals are signing, but has to shop in a different league unfortunately....

And you know that because you have had an in-depth conversation with Frank about who he wants to bring in?

It's quite obvious, and a given, we'd reset the plan to a longer term view.

The hope would be Ange would carry us through most of that plan (cycle). Alas it didn't work out (check others threads for details 😉), so we are at a mini reset. I say mini, as the new manager likes to work within the framework we're offering, good with young players and excellent at man management and emotional intelligence (and definitely not a dingdong).

So I can't quite work out the conversation being had around needing to sign ready made top quality players and how you square that timing wise with where we are at within our cycle and even moreso considering we have a manager that has been working with (some of) the players for 7 days.

If Ange was still here and things were looking rosy at the start of season 3 then that could be the time you are looking to ice the cake. One maybe two signings that elevate your ceiling.

I think that's pretty much what Liverpool and Arsenal did. (Liverpool obviously luckily finding a club willing to bankrupt themselves to give them a leg up, stellar timing).

Frank will need one season to evaluate what he has and whats needed (that doesn't mean it's a throwaway season btw) that's just logical. To be positive, there is a chance we have one or two players onboard already that could well become £80m players in the next 12/24 months. And of course, that is part of the strategy. We need things to come together to really compete. We still can't afford massive mistakes.
If we get to the 'icing the cake' stage, that's when the questions will be answered.
