Transfer thread

Because Frank wouldn't want to work with a Wirtz, a Zubimendi, a Gykores etc, guys with genuine quality who instantly improve the team?

That is the issue, that the clubs with ambition put the money on the table early with real quality signings - Ours will be the usual 2 or 3 young guys with potential that are going to be part of the best Spurs team ever to exist in 5 years plus the 1 or 2 above average but not game changing PL experienced players. Personally I'm relaxed about it as it's been clear for some time nothing will change whilst ENIC are here, but I do understand why some get more antsy about it.

Yes Frank like all our other managers will be prepared to work with such as this has clearly been established in his remit - but we are poles apart to others in terms of ambition....

Hahaha nothing to do with the point I was making, but is par for the Spurs Summer outrage course

You literally said gets the players Frank wants so it is the point - he would absolutely love to work with the players our rivals are signing, but has to shop in a different league unfortunately....

I think getting the right people and those Frank wants is more important that haste.
I don't suggest haste I do suggest before the season starts otherwise we will once again be letting our season start without actually being properly ready and prepared. We want whatever new signings we do get to have time to bed in with both the new squad and the new coach.

Its is the point if you want to use it to cry about what others are doing and you feel we are not. But in the context of Spurs and who we are its really not the point I was making and I should know because it was my point.

I can't be doing a summer of the whole middle aged men screaming into the ether about signings, its boring and twitters full of it, hence my earlier point.

Come on mate! On what planet would we be a more attractive option this summer than the places they are going to? We could match or better the wages but they wouldn’t come to us now.

They were examples? They are far from the only players out there of that calibre, we simply don't shop in that aisle....

The last point I agree with, not worth getting wound up about what ENIC do/dont don't do and signings in general.

Signings aren't the be all and end all, but we do need some real difference makers if we are serious about challenging at the top...

He's had no time with the squad. Could be one reason we are slow compared to other CL teams. Like you can think this is part of the plan or you could think Levy is being difficult with funds again. Nobody really knows right now. I'd prefer not to doom all the time so I'm gonna hope Frank has come in and said I can do the treble with this lot. Just get me Kudus.

And considering we have been one of the most proactive clubs in the last 4 windows with varying success. I am willing to see how it plays.

I'm feeling fairly chipper about out transfer prospects and season ahead.....

Seriously if it's £60m for Kudus or £68 for Eze, has to be Eze all day long.

The problem is we have ambitions to move forward and become a top PL winning club with the best infrastructure and the most professional set-up... and yet we continue to do transfer/recruitment business like a mid-level PL club.

Top Level elite businesses identify who exactly they need (headhunt) to become more competitive and get the deal done fast before your competitors can even blink, and even if they have to pay a bit more to seal the deal.

Mid and lower level clubs or (sme's) need to hard bargain and get the best deal so will be talking to many a number of buyers and sellers before settling on a deal.

Obviously both are done with risk assessments and calculations in advance, but whilst we understand that we have been living under the SME strategy for the past few years, we should be moving towards a Top Level elite business strategy now, especially if our ambition is to win the league.

I don't think Levy can change his procurement style to adapt with Elite level procurement in today's football. Times and industry has evolved, with Saudi money and US and far East money already in now... Levy's style is no longer suited to an Elite level football club. It's okay if we want to be a 6th-12th placed club...but not if we want to win the league.

What other examples then?
Huh? You think those are the only really good players that can be signed?

At what point do you envisage we will be splashing out on genuine quality in their prime players? And by that I'm thinking a little better than Richi or Solanke. They are not real difference makers, merely decent level PL players.

Like I originally said, I'm not even one complaining as I've long accepted what we are under ENIC but I do understand why others would complain. And if Levy really was serious about his League/Champions League aspirations he's going to have to dig deeper into ENiCs pockets. And the time to show ambition would be now, considering our stock is high having won a major European trophy and being back in the CL....

As was mentioned yesterday by someone else on another thread (and pretty much weekly since this wage to turnover ratio nonsense arose) if a player of top quality is available we will not be the only ones after them, there will be at least a couple of more attractive destinations. So even matching a 300k a wage wouldn’t mean getting the player.

I’m yet to see an example of one of these next level players we missed out on because of wages. Certainly not saying it hasn’t happened but yet to hear a realistic example of it. Zubimendi and Wirtz I don’t consider realistic by the way unless you consider us more attractive than Pool or the goons right now.

Seems frank wants soeone to play on the right. Kudus does. Eze doesn't. So kudus is the priority.

Yeah absolutely, I'm not deluded enough to think we can just acquire any good player potentially available. And Luis Diaz and Bruno Fernandes are two examples of us being dwarfed by bigger clubs.

But I don't buy we can't sign a really good player at the top of his game if we were ambitious. There are plenty of players not available but a club will go the extra mile to get him. I'm not advocating us overspending here there and everywhere, but I do think there are times we could opportunistically loosen the purse strings more than we do when our stock is high - as it is now. But it is what it is, our recruitment since Paratici has been decent so we should be good in maintaining a top 6 status at least....
