TOTTENHAM vs. ASTON VILLA - OMT

Right. No silly games now. BRAVE VILLA just got battered 8-0 by a bunch of rent boys from West London. If we are SERIOUS about getting top four this season, these are the sort of games we should be winning. Away at Aston Villa, back at the place that pretty much cost us third place last season due to the fact we brought on PARKER FOR DEFOE late in the game.

It's also a place which produced one of our best ever performances in the last 10 years when we beat them 1-2 when we were down to 10 men a few years back. van der Vaart our Christmas hero then. Let us hope we have a new Christmas hero come boxing day when we can get all three points at Villa Park and put the pressure back on some of the other teams.

LLORIS
WALKER - DAWSON - CAULKER - VERTONGHEN
LENNON - DEMBELE - SANDRO - BALE
SIGURDSSON
ADEBAYOR

Is the exact team I would play. Unless we have Assou-Ekotto back. Then I would put him at left back and put Vertonghen in the centre replacing Caulker. I think Sigurdsson deserves a start, he's got an assist when coming off the bench recently against Fulham, almost scored our second against Everton which would have put the game to bed, should have got an assist against Swansea and if it wasn't for a great save yesterday would have scored a winner in our last game. I think he should start with Adebayor off of him. Unfair on Defoe? Not really. It's the Christmas period where rotation is key.

With Arsenal not playing, this is the perfect opportunity to put pressure on there games by going three points clear of them. West Brom are away at QPR who need points. Chelsea are away at on form Norwich who have beaten Arsenal, Man Utd and us at Craven Cottage this season. Everton are at home to Wigan, but I've seen worse shocks.

Lets do this guys.

COYS.

Edit:- I did the title in capitals but for some reason it has come out like that. No idea why?

Only thing I'd change is Dempsey instead of Sig.

They may be fired up after today's battering, but we are still better than them and should win.

Dam an OMT by a non believer! Oh the pain.

COME ON YOU SPURS.

Like that team Mumorn, hope we go with that. 2-0 win Spurs

Being an OMT GAAAAWD. I am on good authority to believe that being a non-believer has helped us win away at Fulham and at home to QPR in recent years.

Thank you for editing the title of the thread!

If we do win now. I put it down to title edit.

I'd probably go for that team with Naughton ahead of Walker for me.

So sure we are gonna lose this. Today's result for them seals it.

Nervertheless, I'd play Sig. Don't even consider it harsh on Defoe. He's had a good season but has found it frustrating the last few games anyway, so I don't see why he should be immune to getting dropped occasionally. Midfield picks itself, reckon Benny will need a reserve game at least before coming back into this.

Sigg for Lennon, this will then release Walker to get up and down. Dempsey for Sigg in the hole.

This would give us more players who get in the box to convert Bale's crosses.

Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Boxing Day, Wednesday 26th December 2012 (KO 17:30) in the 19th round of 2012-13 Premier League matches.

Villa come into the match in 16th place in the Table on 18 points while Spurs are in 5th place on 30 points.

The match at will be the 164th time the two teams have met.

Tottenham Hotspur first met Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes ended with a 3-1 win for Aston Villa.

Three more friendlies were played until the clubs met in anger for the first time in the old Third Round of the FA Cup (today's 5th Round) in March 1903 with Villa winning 3-2.

The first Football League meeting came on 20th November 1909 in the First Division after Spurs had been promoted after their first season of League football. Villa once again won 3-2.

There have been two Wembley matches played between the two clubs. The first was in the 1971 Football League Cup Final which Spurs won 2-0 with two goals from Martin Chivers - Aston Villa were in the Third Division at the time.

The second game at Wembley came in the 1981 Charity Shield with FA Cup Winners Spurs drawing 2-2 with Football League Champions Aston Villa. Mark Falco scored both Spurs goals and Peter Withe did likewise for Villa.

There have been no Domestic Cup meetings between the two teams during the last 18 years.

The last time they met was in the 5th Round of the League Cup in January 1994 with Villa winning 2-1.

Both Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were founder-members of the Premier League in 1992-93 and the two clubs, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the only seven ever-present clubs during the competition's 21 season history.

Spurs did the 'double' over Villa in 2010-11 winning both matches 2-1 with Rafael van der Vaart scoring all of Tottenham's four goals. Villa's two goals both came from Marc Albrighton at White Hart Lane in October and Villa Park in December, after Spurs had been reduced to ten men after Jermain Defoe's red card after 27 minutes.

Spurs signed former Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel during the summer of 2011 on a free transfer. Alan Hutton made a move in the opposite direction and Jermaine Jenas joined Villa on a season's loan.

The fixture at White Hart Lane last season took place on Monday 21st November and resulted in a 2-0 win for Tottenham. Two first half goals from Emmanuel Adebayor after 14 and 40 minutes were enough to see Spurs take all three points in a game marked by Harry Redknapp's return after undergoing minor heart surgery. In January 2012 former Spurs striker Robbie Keane had a loan spell with Aston Villa scoring 3 times in 7 appearances. The match at Villa Park in April 2012 finished 1-1 with Ciaran Clark putting Villa ahead with a 25-yard shot that deflected off William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor scoring a 62nd minute penalty to level the proceedings.

This reverse fixture earlier this season at White Hart Lane in October resulted in a 2-0 win for Spurs. After a goalless first half, Steven Caulker put Spurs ahead after 58 minutes when he deflected-in Jermain Defoe's close range shot and Aaron Lennon added a second in the 67th minute with
a powerful shot into the far corner of the net.

Wednesday's game at Villa Park will be the 164th match played between the two clubs and Spurs have the edge with 65 wins to Villa's 59 with 39 matches having been drawn.

Away at Aston Villa, back at the place that pretty much cost us third place last season due to the fact we brought on PARKER FOR DEFOE late in the game.

That sub was made in the 89th minute. We hardly drew due to that! Also, it was Parker for VDV. But are there still fans out there who didn't understand the tactical thinking behind that substitution? It was done to push MOdric forward into VDV's role. We were dominating the possession, but couldn't open them up, so pushed our most creative player forward. It was pointed out at the time by many fans that it wasn't a defensive sub and in fact an attacking move, yet still, months later, people can't get their heads around it. It was not the reason we didn't win that game and it was the right attacking move, as Modric was far more likely to play the clever ball needed to open them up, than Defoe would have been. Parker played as the last man, so even the defenders could push up. We put on a defensive player in order for them team to be as attacking as possible!

I meant Parker instead of Defoe, sorry about that.

But it's poor tactically. Why push everyone up for the win in the 89th minute? Why not do it earlier if that was the case? It was poor like many other poor tactical decisions we saw from Redknapp in the second half of last season.
