Tottenham Hotspur Women

Not a lot of people at the game now, it seems. The Chelsea section is packed, and the lower tier of the west stand is full, other than that there’s barely anyone anywhere. But hey, our team has only really picked up the last year or so, so it’ll come! 2-0 Chelsea and we’re not really in it.

Yeah they've been coming along nicely this season regardless.

Apparently Tel has attended the game today - good lad....

Yeah, criticise the owners as much as you want, but they do invest in the women’s team. Nice one, Tel!

Two huge chances for Tandberg and Holdt now, but no cigar.

Well took my daughter to her first WSL game. In fact her first football game. Quite an enjoyable experience and I thought we played quite well in the first half. Not sure what the attendance was but it didn't seem particularly full and I know the stadium was half shut but looking at empty stands takes a bit away from the atmosphere. Would be great if it becomes more popular.

On another note Mathys Tel was in attendance. We saw him signing autographs and taking photos with fans at the end of the game so we went over to him and had a photo with him. Seemed a good bloke. Not sure if they usually have a men's player in the crowd as a representative?

I wasn't at the game but the official attendance is shown as 9,356, lower west holds approx 4,000 which looked pretty full , leave anyone there to work out if there was another 5,000 elsewhere in the stands..

Great first half performance...really thought it might finally be our time to beat them. But it went the same way it always does against Chelsea, men or women.

Another good / awful crowd though. Only 9,000?? Well done to those that went. I really don't understand why we can't get 20,000 for these games.

100% not a men’s rep, and according to this the first ever to do it on their own accord.

I love him, love his attitude. Just wish the manager would give him a proper run in the team.

I really like Tel, have high hopes for him still. I'm not sure how accurate Tel being the first player to ever come to a match is though, feels like the sort of nonsense that people just write on SM without having all the facts. I can imagine there's a fair few in the squad who would have made the effort to go at some point, the likes of Maddison etc....

I'm a casual fan of the women's team - circumstances don't usually arise for me to be able to watch them regularly but I found watching them today a really cathartic experience. Sure the scoreline was a little bit freak and you wont get that every week (in fact that's the first time I've ever watched a 7-3 in nearly 40 years!) but it was a reminder of what I enjoy watching - at a really visceral level - and even more so when it happens for a team in lilywhite with a badger on the badge! I'd forgotten what it was like to see a Spurs team play so intently on the front foot, looking to break lines through the middle of the pitch either through passing sequences and clever movement off the ball or through raw skill to dribble past opponents.

Without sounding too mawkish that was proper 'Game is About Glory' stuff living up to every word and sentiment of Danny Blanchflower's famous quote. Lets see whether this performance can be replicated and the team can continue to progress but by GHod lets hope whatever check list the management team used to identify Martin Ho is swiftly passed down the corridors at Hotspur Way!

If you're interested in the formation and early years of the women's team I've just published my latest podcast episode that features two of the original members of the then Broxbourne Ladies team and covers the 80s and 90s journey - https://pod.fo/e/38fd2d
