*** Tottenham Hotspur v Rennes *** *POSTPONED*

So I don't get it. Are we out because we had enough players for the original match and pulled out of it, or because we couldn't agree on a date to play Rennes?

UEFA will probably try to find a fudge to resolve this out of court. No idea what that will be. Cant force another team to go through a play-off

We should have given it more respect, time and again we put out weak sides in cup competitions and wonder why we never win anything, not going to get a winning mentality when we pick and choose. City don't seem to mind the League Cup, Chelsea have gone all out for Europa league etc and it doesn't seem to do them any harm.
Both invest considerably more to have large squads full of good players. If we build a proper squad full of quality then I agree we can then choose not to prioritise certain competitions as much.

This, its started with "rent a quote" and its carried on. When will folks accept that throwing a team together full of kids ( which we have done on several occasions) its foolish at best and then the same fans moan when we play poorly and lose games.

Comes back to the age old problem:

- we're big enough for there to be an expectation that we're competitive in cups AND also we're in Europe more or less every year
- we're not big (rich) enough for us to have a squad where the back-ups and first 11 are largely interchangeable such that we can cope with 2 games per week all season

Until we either slip down the league, or we can afford/develop a squad (rather than team) with more quality this will continue

Do not disagree with most of that, but i have watched some really poor teams put out in cups over the years and there has to be a happy medium. Always makes me laugh when i hear s ome fans say a much changed tean SHOULD be good enough to win games and then bitch when they are proved wrong again. Truth is that you can not just throw young players together and then expect them to perform off the bat.

Recently we've had pretty good depth - we had Moura, Lamela etc as our back up. The others still put out younger/fringe players but blend them with some experience as well but we seem to go for the change 10 players approach so many of them aren't match fit and there's no pattern of play.

It’s rarely the talent of the players, it’s their mental side and their motivation or lack of

If you took out the key players (Eriksen, Kane, Son) then the team doesn't have the quality in attack or control. Moura and Lamela were just fringe players not guys who were forcing their way into the first 11. The problem with the reserve team was the same issues that the first 11 had.

No quality depth at striker and playmaker. Compare to the team's you're thinking of and you'll see they will play their alternative creative and attacking options. We just never had quality depth in those areas.
