***Tottenham Hotspur v Everton*** - OMT

Great win that, first team to beat them there, clean sheet and the away form continues. We just have to keep picking up points whilst we sort the overall play out and get some important players back.

Wasn’t pretty, didn’t enjoy watching it but credit where it’s due, we were effective. Back 6 and Vicario were excellent. Really enjoyed Bentancur’s performance. Guess that’s why he’s in the team and has a new contract.

It’s not my type of football but you can’t argue with 3rd at this stage. Credit to Frank.

What I like is that it doesn't require us to play well to get a result. It gives a basis and belief. Danso for example looks like he'd defend forever, regardless of what's going on in front of him.

Too often historically if we didn't play well we'd lose.

This game is the epitomization of why I found Ange's point-blank refusal to train set pieces so strange, and time has not lessened that opinion.

When you can't create much in open play, you need to shut up shop and try to eke out points - especially against similar sides that will try to turn everything into a battle, which sums up both us and Everton right now.

Immediately - *immediately* - the investment on set pieces is paying off, and we found ourselves 2-0 up without particularly playing well, followed by a lot of pretty comfortable defending against their own set-plays at the other end. And eventually, the third.

I can see what Frank is trying to do, and I trust that it will come off once he gets players back and maybe gets a couple more in that suit his vision. But in these early days, when everyone is struggling to fully click, it's his focus on the basics - set pieces, defending, keeping a shape - that will see him get the time needed to implement his more grandiose ideas.

Ange, much as I love him, never figured that out. Well done to Frank for doing so. :)

Great point. Danso looks clumsy at times to me but I like him. Was great today again as he has been in the last few games. Disproves the myth that we need VdV and Romero to be able to defend.

we don't play well in the rain but that was a TF victory with the set pieces and defending structure
love it that in the second half we didn't chase the ball to the keeper instead waited at the half way line before the press started
don't love it that xavi and muani look far off in terms of fitness and keeping up with the pace of the epl
glad that Vdv got a brace - he really looks like captain material and i didn't feel we missed romero at all
lol at porro - grealish totally embarrassed him
how does johnson become a professional footballer? his skillset seems so narrow
vicario has been excellent ! difficult saves and unlike last season, and put up a fight in commanding his area

everton deserve to get relegated if they insist on playing rugby-football. then maybe we can trade richy for ndiaye.

really?

it's another game in Grealish's career, where he again registers no goals or assists against us

well they stopped a lot coming through the centre; on the other hand they also didn't do a lot to help the attack through the centre. so maybe they were focused on just breaking up play and maintaining their central presence - which they did very well.
I think Palhinha and Bentancur have done their job well today.

Away from home, this set up works (with better attackers).
At home we need to see more attacking options.
