Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Re: Northumberland Development Project - Archway On Fire

Nah. We're still way ahead of the rest - although mostly because ours is the most recently built.

Hotspur Way will be eclipsed by City's new training centre when it's finished later this year, though. Not surprising because it's nothing to them to splash £100m on it. They'll even have a 7K mini stadium as part of it.
I read somewhere that our plans for the digs at Hotspur Way included building a 5k stadium.

Match day protest to target Tottenham Hotspur fans over new stadium plans

Community protestors fighting the "gentrification and social cleansing” of Tottenham will seek the support of Spurs fans during this weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

Campaigners believe that Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium plans are being used by the club's directors, Haringey Council and the Mayor of London to promote a "shocking and scandalous wholesale demolition of homes and businesses" across the borough.

The protestors say plans to demolish and redevelop 300 homes on the nearby Love Land estate as part of a scheme to provide an "unnecessary" walkway to the new stadium have been expanded to include the demolition of the huge Northumberland Park estate to the east of the ground, and council homes right across Tottenham.

Campaigners have estimated that Haringey Council has 3,408 homes presently set for demolition (2,615 council homes; 137 housing association properties; and 656 privately-owned houses) and have slammed the plans as "gentrification and social cleansing on a huge scale".

The rally planned for this Saturday's White Hart Lane game will seek the support of Spurs fans in getting the club's directors, Boris Johnson and the council to abandon the demolition plans.

We are currently awaiting a response from both Haringey Council and Spurs.

I love how slum clearance has become "gentrification and social cleansing". Trying to do something to one of the poorest parts of the country and dilapidated housing stock that isn't fit for animals.

If it was nice Victorian housing that was being demolished that would be one thing, but grotty post-war pre-fabs that weren't meant to last anywhere near this long and have become ghettos.

Isn't that what Liverpool did? Bought up lots of viable decent houses around Anfield over the last decade and then let them rot unlived in?

At least we can claim some sort of necessary improvement from current standards rather than creating a slum first.

Re: Northumberland Development Project - Archway On Fire

An honest sentiment but sadly low on the list of priorities for Spurs fans who just won't see further than the new stadium

Yes Liverpool did that, but we did something similar on the High Road. Some of the lower grade listed buildings can be demolished because of their state.

But isn't new affordable and social housing being built to replace (and indeed surpass) the 300 homes being demolished on the Love Lane estate? The next line of the arcticle is also misleading I believe:

Campaigners have estimated that Haringey Council has 3,408 homes presently set for demolition (2,615 council homes; 137 housing association properties; and 656 privately-owned houses) and have slammed the plans as "gentrification and social cleansing on a huge scale".
Most of this is completely unrelated to work going on as part of the regeneration efforts in North Tottenham. It also fails to make any mention of the new council and housing association property that Harringey are developing.

Re: Northumberland Development Project - Archway On Fire

Do those numbers include the Tottenham Hale development? Overall I think they are planning to build over 5000 homes and some are bound to be replacements.

Who are the leaders of this group against gentrification? Your local drug dealers and loan sharks?

It'll be the Our Tottenham group and their spokesman, Martin Ball, I'd imagine.

They've written a number of articles for the local rags complaining about Spurs and Haringey and claiming to speak for the entire community. In reality, they likely only speak for a couple of hundred malcontents and career activists plus a few of the shop owners who are understandably upset that their premises are earmarked for demolition.

One to get the ENIC OUTers frothing at the mouth................Liverpool due to start construction of their increased capacity main stand next week.

Cue rants about ENIC having done nothing for the past 14 years and having no intention of building our new stadium......
