Thomas Frank - Head Coach

These cooked up stats stitch me up. There are a hundred ways to skin a cat... not to mention the well oiled phrase... lies, damned lies and statistics. Maybe you have not noticed.... the sole aim of a game of football is to get points from every game played - either one or three - and nothing else!! It's like people dissing the arse for scoring from so many set pieces; do they give a fudge looking down on everyone else from the top of the table?

Tell me... who do you prefer to be: bottom of this irrelevant table or in the 11th position occupied by the Wet Spammers.... and of course the equivalent league positions.

“The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.”
Danny Blanchflower

Never forget that. Never.

Not trying to hijack the TF-thread with Amorin-stuff, but I just watched Adam Clery's tube about why Amorin had to get sacked, and I feel so much of what he says about the tactical inflexibility in there could be copy & pasted into a "why is Thomas Frank struggling at Spurs"-video.

Ahh... a new accusation. Has the hate now reached such monstrous levels that we are pulling every straw around, trying to make some brick, any brick, stick!!

Do you know what you're saying?? Tactical inflexibility????!!!! If there is one thing you can't accuse Frank in his career... it is tactical inflexibility.

The ball slipped out of his hands in the 94th minute. I don't think it's comparable at all.
Frank himself said 2-0 and the game would've been done.
Bergvall in a two is playing a more natural game for him where he can get on the ball and carry from deeper positions.
You are (of course) entitled to your opinion. As you said, Sunderland were not especially potent. We ended up ceding initiative anyway.

In order to answer properly, please rephrase the question. Are you asking what risks should NOT be taken? If so, the primary one would be to hedge defensive bets. IF he wanted to shut the game out, I'd have rather he brought Danso on and went 5 at the back. 5-4-1. IF the intention was to close the game out. If the intention was to try and win it whilst remaining somewhat secure, Palhinha is a great insurance in front of those defenders; you don't need two sitting mids like that IMO.

See my answer above.
I can honestly tell you that both points I raised above were ones I said as the subs were being made and it was clear what was going on.

Mate, I am projecting no-one's POV other than my own. I am, by definition, a fan. I am not the manager. I know you feel exceptionally protective of Frank, to the extent that I personally think you won't easily accept any criticism of his decisions. They are tough decisions in real time, and such decisions tell us a lot about how someone is operating. To the best of my knowledge, that was the extent of what I was observing and offering my opinions on. You can call it 'hindsight' however I can assure you it wasn't. And the bottom line is tht some managers would, indeed, have done what he did, and some wouldn't.
Thanks for engaging Steff. I am not going to go over old ground. But I want to be clear that I am not wedded to Thomas Frank, he was not my first choice. I see merit in some of the criticisms of him and his style of play so far. However, I think there are huge mitigations for that. And I am genuinely disgusted with some of the criticism which is OTT and the booing in the stadium. I want to give him a proper chance to see what he can do here as I think he is a decent manager and we will regret not giving him that chance to show it.

Was waiting for this to come out of some hole.... The perennial excuse for being also-rans....

Thanks. You can remember it yourself till your dying days. Myself... I was overjoyed in seeing United die of boredom in Bilbao.

Just for curiosity sake.... did you celebrate that inglorious win????

*Apart from cup games though, right?

I want to give Frank the whole season but I'm losing my patience with him. How does he think that having Bentancur and Palhinha starting together again is a good idea? It's not even defensively sound.

Also, we score an early goal and somehow the players think the job is done? It's so predictable. It's been so frustrating for me, on top of the lack of rotation...

I just needed to vent. I still think Frank deserves at least a full season but the things I'm seeing are simply mind-boggling.

I know very well what I’m saying. I don’t say that everything in that video is applicable to our situation. I was referring to the bits where he says Amorin only had one way to be flexible, by putting different players into the same slots.

Which feels like what we’ve been doing. We swap between bentancour, palinha, gray, bergvall and sarr in the same midfield trio, but we hardly adapt their roles within the system to benefit from their different abilities.

It is not a like-for-like comparison with Amorin.

Another disparaging, derogatory response. Regardless...

1) I won't remember it, I'll continue to believe in it as the way football, and this club, should be.

2) Of course! Win semis and finals in any way possible, especially with so many key players injured.

Really good until we forgot how to defend. Ironically, we were sitting deeper than we had been for both goals, particularly the second.
Hence Postecoglouesque....

Finally... we have found common ground.... Win (or draw) in any way possible, especially with so many key players injured.... :D

Clueless. Gutless. Sack him tonight

Don't worry, we will be lectured by how it's not him, losing to mighty Bournemouth who haven't won since October is no shame, how our squad is just not good enough but Brentford without Frank is 5th.

But we are going to have to watch us get knocked out the cup, and then beaten by fudging West Ham .. and it will still be "he just needs time"

What is your Brentford without Frank is 5th thing? Lol. You know he built that club. All the foundations, plans for players, recuitment, development of players owe a legacy to Frank and his team.

Can see above, I predicted that things would get more perilous for Frank and us. When relying on so many young players it is going to be a roller coaster. There are moments of skill, and lapses too. Have to be patient with an unsettled side like this missing our choice attack. At least we were in the mix, and could have won it.

Because they never were 5th with him, this is the most points they have ever had at this point of a season.

Think for a moment, their established manager and 2 best players leave and they not only do ok, they do better than that manager ever did. What is says is Brentford as a club was more likely responsible for his success and under a coach with none/zero coaching experience are outperforming his 7+ years there ..

He's a fudging Potter, bad call, time for the club to move on
